Then Bairds or ATS Bullion is the place to go IMO. They will actually give you a choice of several sovereigns to pick out.

Sharps will only do that if they know you dropping 10k on the day.

Thanks was thinking of putting up a post asking for advise from a newbies but didn’t want to spam the group! Would to  get one of the proof in the boxes from recent releases.

If you wish to buy in person, most likely need some photo ID, maybe two photo ID's. And you will have to set up an account, both for HGM and Sharps

Yes by the looks of it up to 5k with one form of id. :)

I don't think you need to call them, but instead have an idea of what you want to see so they can bring it out in one go.

Otherwise it will be a lot of back and forth

Ok cool yeah I have a idea what I am after also as you might know London better than me would I able to pick up some sovereign capsules and the book The Gold Sovereign Series while over?

Tavex is not a showroom so ideally you need to know what you want before going in.

Ok I can call them in the morning for the afternoon or would need a days notice?

Appointment only I think? @NGMD should be able to clarify

Just asked on the online chat and they said they like to book but also accept walkins too!

Tavex is also a good option to remember. Can collect by appointment, and they're a lovely bunch

Can you just walk in or I need an appointment? I see they seem one of the best prices

Yes if you want the odd bit of au I'm happy to sell to you, depending on what it is I will try my best to be competitive.

The "wanted ad"  does sound like  a brilliant idea and if I do match any of your requirements I will be in contact.

Ok cheers will keep it in mind!

If I was the OP I would put up a wanted listing a week before he arrives and be willing to meet and buy from members who are in London.  It would work out cheaper and he could make some contacts at the same time

You know that’s not a bad idea.

Check out the British Museum if you have time and haven't already been. They have a few coin collections, and a great room with numismatic focus. Lots of production and international coinage. Free as well!

Cool yes it’s on my to do list! Also Tower of London see some nice coins I hope

If you want a luxury experience Sharps & pixely, or Baird are nice. You will have a nice looking shop, and service. Hatton Garden metals will often be cheaper, as the premises is smaller and less luxury.

Truth is if you just want a good price, any of them could give the best price on the day. Just have to spend a bit of time before you head to the shops in the morning browsing prices on each of their websites, then head over to the chosen shop to make a purchase.

That’s sound advise!  I am in London for a week and will probably get it the last day as I don’t want to be having it in my hotel room all that time.

Not usual in UK. Haven't heard of any doing this. Just pay the price of the coins.

Perfect thanks :) will definitely go to this shop. Lot cheaper than the others ones I looked at!

  12. Hey all

Ok I am coming to London in March for Europe and want to pick up some bullion. Any recommendations I am mostly looking for gold. A few oz (Britannia and Krugerrand) and some sovereigns. I have seen a few online can anyone recommend any good priced ones?

I like 1/10 oz coins. I'd rather have ten smaller coins than one larger 1 oz coin.  Yes the premium is inevitably higher but there seems to be extra liquidity and if you need to just move a small amount into cash rather than trying to shift a grand at a time. Plus not everybody has a few grand to splurge on ounces of gold at a time. Personally I'm terrible at frittering away cash rather than saving, so sometimes its better for me just to spend a spare £100 or so on a 1/10 or if I try and save it toward a larger coin I'll end up dipping into it for random crap and get nowhere. I actually like 1/10 Britannia's and Britannia's in general as they are more aesthetically pleasing to me, more so than Sovereigns as I am not keen on the rosy copper coloured gold. Also I like the look of 'more' coins rather than just one big one.

You are so right I am thinking of making a large silver order from a online place and everytime just add a 1/10 gold one in. And also if I ever want to get some little bit of cash from gold in years to come I would either have to sell a whole oz coin but with 1/10 yiu can sell smaller parts. And I also like the feeling of having 10 coins! What about 1/25 Philharmonic they seem well priced.
