  1. @artalien thought you were looking for silver?
  2. You won't get any original Waterloo medals. It didn't get produced because minting technology then wasn't adequate enough to impress such complex design on large blanks. Throughout history various silversmiths and RM made quite some replicas, in .925 silver, and in many sizes. I wound't pay too much over spot to be honest.
  3. I am inclined to agree. But I'm afraid there are a minority of "in the know" TSF members who believe the PM market is a scam itself, that everything is so heavily manipulated that gold price bears no correlation with real world events, that spot doesn't reflect the worth of precious metals, to the point where they'd think they live in a simulation. The next moment they try to sell you silver. They are either terminally delusional or deliberately spreading misinformation to aid their sales. To me they are in no place to criticise eBay sellers who list "copy" coins to hook stupid buyers. I'm not referring to anyone I've recently interacted with. I saw that kind of behaviour a couple months ago, but never since (perhaps because I blocked them?)
  4. Does he also need to pay for that?
  5. I tried to research some particular coins. Apparently their owner(s) cracked the boxes and sent the certs back, thereby invalidating the cert. However, the coins still appear in the population reports. Coins that were submitted to both NGC and PCGS appear on the population reports of both services. Don't read too much into population reports. And don't subscribe to what PGCS and NGC say in general. They (according to their census) have graded more tha 30 million US coins each, and for UK coins? About half a million. And the numbers are still lower for coins from other countries. They're still America-centric services, and they primarily focus on American coins.
  6. Stupid people gotta be punished somehow. I call it Divine Intervention. Edit: above was a joke. Below is possibly what happens. People could list on eBay and ask friends and clients to bid until the listing reaches desired prices. Then some other illicit stuff could be included in the deal. Though for that purpose you can also pay with half sovereigns
  7. Nah they don't need to do that. Just copy Pelosi's stock portfolio and they'll net much more
  8. That's the way to do it though, isn't it? You spend your billions on factories at home, they get your products, your supply chain gets orders, workers get paid, and you recover some by taxing the manufacturers. That way everyone is happy. What can money do if directly vested into Ukraine's account?
  9. Also we've been downing £30,000 a pop drones with £2,000,000 per pop sea ceptor, and some cheap made in China "missiles" probably a tenth of that...
  10. I think you'll see people offloading old coins (pre 47 sixpences, pre 20 halfcrown, that sort of things) at spot. That's probably the lowest price silver coins you'll get. I've also seen people selling sterling silverware on this forum under spot. I can't think of anything cheaper, really.
  11. It's like some of the shipwreck coins. Some history attached, but the coins themselves don't tell the story (as in the design, mint marks, etc), and without the certificates they're indistinguishable from their generic peer. Shipwreck silver can have a lot of environmental damage, though. I've seen dealers inflating value on Duoro sovereigns, but in reality the Duoro sovereigns are quite many, when they went into the market prices took a hit. Quite, because in this case it is the certificate/holder/label being collected, not the coins themselves
  12. I guess "liberty" alone is more of a motto than a design, so you have "liberty" on buffaloes despite the Indian head and the bison (both of which they also fought to get rid of)
  13. The modern proof are basically PF70 then picking bits (e.g. hairlines) and deciding if they are PF69 or worse, 68. That 1899, can't see the lustre the way you pictured it. It's thus impossible to give an opinion. It could be anything between AU55 and MS63. AU55 is basically good-ish details with trace lustre in the legend. AU58 has lustrous legend but none in the field. Judging from the high points (rein, George's head, queen's veil) my bet is MS61 or 62.
  14. I grade it at M-melt! But don't read too much into what dealer call better than bullion. Might be that you still know what type of coin it is.
  15. I found it as "sold". Do you know if it's possible to see their past sale prices?
  16. I'm asking because I want one. Don't have it yet...
  17. These actually are medal aligned if you look at pictures of the reverse. Not sure if that's reflected on the price...
  18. Does anyone have a price guide on UNC 1841s? Haven't any information on PCGS price guide, no major auction appearance apart from £30k (naked coin, 2011, Bonhams) and £61k (MS65, 2018, Jon Blyth)
  19. Everything, as long as they don't include obverse portraits and make two coin sets...
  20. Early shields can grade MS63 or above even if the lions are blurry (usually 3rd lions). I think the key to shield sovs is the obv lustre. I'll try to find some graded examples online to show this Edit: https://www.pcgs.com/auctionprices/item/1838-sov-s-3852/206947/-5348363999050247425 https://coins.ha.com/itm/great-britain/world-coins/great-britain-victoria-gold-sovereign-1842-ms65-pcgs-/a/3093-30105.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  21. As I said, if you're planning to sell then grade. Would I grade my coins? No at the moment because I'm not planning to sell. I will grade for £70 per coin if I deem a coin grade-worthy and want to sell it
