  1. Iran really has some problems with Muslim countries.
  2. Yes we are, unfortunately I'd rather have a crazy night out and piss in a brand new bottle of Louis XIII than contributing to the salary of Gary O'Lineker, Gary McLineker, Gary al-Lineker, Gary Linekski, Gary Lineker-Wang or something like that. Both a waste of money but the latter a waste of air.
  3. I don't clean good coins. These are so well circulated you won't get any grade on them anyway. If the coins look good there's a fair change they don't have as much Christmas pudding on them, and will go for much, much more. Maybe some acetone to remove the organic contamination, and the good coins will be collectible. I have a thread explaining toning and conservation. Toning can be nice or not, but that's just sulphur. When coal was still used there may be nitrogen oxide and the like, which also toned the coins. Greasy organic bit is what I really don't want, but these were small change and were used extensively by the rough, poor people. Some past owners of these coins may even have died of TB. The coins told more stories than these people themselves. I bought them to put in a leather purse so I feel like a rich pre-modern man. I think if you had all those shillings in your pocket in the late 19th century, you'd feel quite rich, too. A shilling would pay for a lot (I think a typical worker made £3 a week back then). Now the silver in that shilling is worth a couple pounds, and here's TSF people insisting PMs retain their purchasing power...
  4. Goddard's actually. Then bicarb which was to neutralise the Goddard's and still some grim bits I can't get rid of. They're in acetone now
  5. If you think your coins are too big, here's some medieval wisdom
  6. Yes I guess the series will perform much better if there are 1/4oz gold
  7. Edited that out 😂 It must have been a server error because nothing happened when I clicked for the first two times...
  8. The original in gold will be very challenging, but easier to get some old silver. I think the Henry VII&VIII both used the groat obverse which should be relatively simple. I'd prefer gold originals of the same monarchs to old silver with matching portrait. The gold Tudor sovereigns will prove very challenging. I'd better try becoming a billionaire first.
  9. Could be the report that UK job market is cooling
  10. I'm subscribed to this series in 1oz gold. I should hope it goes on. I believe it will be most amazing with all coins assembled. Then try very hard to get the originals, I guess? High grade 5 guineas would be such an ambitious collection
  11. They should change their name into Silver Hub
  12. A 1953 circulation set (not sure if original or assembled, I have the proof set already), and some well-circulated cuties. There is an 1817 (lucky) and a lacquered 1887. I had to clean the cuties. I know some would despair at removing their historical character, like century-old skin oil and saliva, coal, diesel, petrol, and someone's Christmas pudding. The second I put them in hot water it was all yellow and smelt like the London underground (especially the Northern line) Hopefully they will re-tone in my cupboard.
  13. They want it "from A to B" (and I won't repeat that abominable curse) and nothing in between. It's that simple. The 1947 was rejected by powerful neighbours who wanted neither states. The said neighbours since realised they'd better keep out and leave the doors solidly shut behind them. You should also watch the Oxford Union debate by Ben Shapiro, a simple YT search gives it, and he said it pretty much conclusively.
  14. This year or next, when the RTB dragons are released in bullion.
  15. You get better deals selling to and buying from BBP.
  16. https://www.ebay.com/itm/176122784577 Found this on eBay. Whoever did that scratch ought to be hanged
  17. Good point. No way we'll ever know about that though. They slashed mintage of the Monarchs series by 400 for that very reason, and as someone collecting that series I'm quite happy
  18. Or if you coundn't help nodding your head like you're being electrocuted.
  19. The original Petition Crown and 3G also are prohibitively expensive though... Original St.George crown not so much. They are everywhere. No because Una&Lion is the lowest
  20. You'd be better off exchanging sovereigns for Coloumbian marching powder of the same weight!
