Think it is called finning, it is caused by to much pressure on the surface of the coin.

If you have it around all of the coin then the die to planchet distance was incorrect, meaning the distance the dies  was set to close to the planchet which caused to much pressure during minting, and forced the metal between the die and collar.

Uneven finning is where the die has not being set level/even causing to much pressure on one side of the planchet.

That's for your help Wampum greatly appreciated.

  2. That's a shame. Your right, finning I remember trying to figure that out last year when my petition crown arrived with the same problem. It's a great disappointment to see. Although it obviously doesn't effect grading as seen some of the petitions from last year with obvious finning issues scored a PF70 why is this? Should that not lower the score as the coin isn't perfect

  3. Businesses turning a profit is one thing and would be absurd not too turn a profit. But missing out on coins for whatever reason, to see every upcoming release soon as it arrives talk about an eBay flip n flip quite another. Disappointing for collectors, what I'm saying is, the pleasure of collecting for real collections is dying and being killed by the endless private flippers. Some coins worth paying double triple the price sometimes more if need for a set or collection, but you have to agree most now are out for a flip from the start and have no intentions of adding the coin to their collection.

  4. Flipperforum would be more suited on majority of topics seem to read on here. Great shame for people who enjoy the excitement and the joy and pleasure of simply owning coins and building a collection for the joy of the hobbie, there's a great deal of pleasure in collecting anything wether be coins, records, stamps whatever your into, you come here to hear and see what others have shared n read on coins maybe you haven't got or never will have to see the appeal of such coins n most topics it's flip flip n flip again. The enjoyment of collecting i have to say is less n less. I agree with golddiggerdave they have increased price, can be annoying but  understandable, mintages cut, fantasic. But let's get back to talking coins uploading photos for other to see. This flipperforum just getting boring now

I wonder what people think these coins will sell for once the fuss dies down?

    2oz silver ?

    5oz silver ?

    10 oz silver ?

    2 oz gold ?

I be honest and say after watching this series from the start, I don't have a clue 😀

My opinion it's up there as one of the best, I expect they will significantly increase in value. Especially in gold, I'd think anything under £20k would be a great buy. Looks amazing, definitely a keeper. Wouldn't worry about selling, anyone lucky enough to get the gold, just own this one, hang on to it. Investment piece for sure. Doubt these will seldom be seen for sale. Just my opinion. Look forward to hearing everyone's comments. Very intriguing coin

  6. I agree with you. I'm not a fan personally nothing to do with his background or what happened that's besides his music abilities. Still a great artist. But rolling stones the iconic tongue, queen you have the crest. Elton the hat all came together well n these designs. But for the life of me I'm struggling to imagine what they may put on this design. Other than his portrait which I'm hoping they won't do again as seen with the Bowie coin. Never the less he will be bought to complete the collection. Some designs do suprise though so it'll be interesting to see what is produced. He was a very generous man with charities which is something to be said. Thanks for your input westminstrel, any further information on design ideas please share. 28th or 29th I believe. Impressive series upon completion.

  7. He's not my cup of tea, but since he's the next music legend on the series it has to be bought not to break the collection. I'm collecting 1/4 gold on this series. Some 2oz gold depending on the band.  Will be interesting to see the design. But should be better than the police I would vote that as the worse. N the tongue missing on the rolling stones also was a massive disappointment. I expect after afew average coins the decent coins will emerge. The Beatles I think will be a sellout in the large gold size and a decent design. Nothing comes to mind for George maybe just a plain signature.
