  1. why were sovereigns only issued as proof from 1983-99 without bullion issyes but from 1957-82 and 2000-date, both types have been issued. did the mint attempt to move away from bullion to sell proofs or did demand faulter over this time?

    thanks

  2. I was suprised by the mintages and the formate to by them for example the 0.25, 2 and 5 only being availible in sets of suprisingly low mintages with thw half sovereign and full being the only coins issued seperatly and the half having such a low individual mintage but the full sovereign seemingly about the only coin anyone had a fair chance of getting hold of with 10500 plus sets (aprox 4 times the half and 17 times as many as the gold 5 pound sovereign) was any one else suprised? just seemespretty limited numbers except the full compared to past availibilty

  3. I have only recently got more interested in gold coins, before it was mainly historic silver coins so I have never really paid that much attention to sovereign releases as they come out till this year, so is there any set pattern to the bullion release time e.g. is it brought out on the same day as the proof or is it typicaly later, does it change year on year?

  4. any news/ guesses if the bullion coin will be the one year shield pattern or the standars George and the Dragon e.g. do you think the proof coin only will have the special design. also will the bullion coin go live at the same time. its just I only want to go proof if the bullion is not the one off design

    thanks!

  5. it is odd that they have only just decided in the past few years that information they have allways issued is now sensative. why do you think that could be. e.g exceptionaly high or low figgures that could cause demand fluctuation of released maybe or governmental gold stocks of soverwigns being built up so figgures may not be released as they would be controdictuary? its very odd in all honesty

  6. hi I was just wondering if anyone had the bullion mintages for the 2015-21 (5th head) sovereigns and the 2020-21 bullion double sovereign mintages as I cannot find anything. even aproximate numbers would be a help eg maxium numbers or estimates just cannot find anything online

    many thanks

also sorry half sovereigns 2015-21 should have been there too

  7. hi, I was just wondering why the Royal and Colonial mints started issuing St George sovereigns from 1871 but also continued to issue the shield back coins each year until the effigy redesign to the Jubilee Head in 1887 rather than just replacing the shield backs with the newer St George Patter. also most the sources I have found have included a combined mintage figgure for both types, I was wonder also if separate design mintages existed and are accessible?

    many thanks

  8. Does anyone know if the Tudor Beasts series will only be issued as proof or will bullion grade also be issued? alao I noticed allor od the beats are repeated from the Queens series, does anyone know if they will be re-designed or just streight re-issues from the previous sereis?

  9. thanks I was thinking similar things

1989, 2016, 2017- proof only but non jubillee issues

2002, 2012 jubliee issues in bullion.

the only oddity is 2004 issued in bullion but non jubilee based.

my only concern was that with 2 special issues in a row being non bullion I was just wondering if the mint may have unofficaly sneeked it in that one year types would only be proif but I think theres a higher chance if this being bullion than other issues in all honesty. I hope so as I dont buy proof

  10. hi, I was just wondering if there was any news on the 2022 bullion sovereign. from what I'v hear the proof sovereign will be issued next year and feature the royal arms but what about the bullion one? will ot also have the arms, or the standard design maybe with a privy mark. or does anyone thing a bullion sovereign may not be issued at all to ensure highest levels of sales from the more expensive proof versions?

  11. thanks for the replies everyone. I have some other coins with different alignments, all young head Victoria`s, I dont think the alignement is anything special on these but just to check, they are all medal alignments so heads 180 degrees diferance to tails:

    1883 half crown

    1880 half crown

    1886 florin

    1881 shilling

1873 shilling (I think I read this was meant to be a coin alignment?)

    1873 threepence

anything different to what it should be there? Alignments are not my area, thanks in advance for replies

I am struggling to attach photos, it keeps saying too large to send but if you put a sovereign fully streight in a square capule on the side with St George, the turned it over Victoria would be at a 45 degree angle facing downwards so turned to the right

the bottom right corner of the vail would be nearly half way up the coin

  14. Does an error sovereign add or decrease value from the coin? I have recently purchsed an old head sovereign and initaly thought it was a very good aunc coin. then I put it into a coin capsual and noticed when the reverse was perfectly streight in the capsule, the queens head was at a 45 degree angle to the right oposed to it being streight too. does this effect the value/ appeal of the coin? Speaking for myself its a put off but I dont know what the market rule on such errors is. I have tried attaching an image but I'm new here and did not manage it

    thanks in advance everyone
