I'm dubious it is, despite it being extremely polished looking.

Numista states the only proof sovereigns in 1899 were made in Perth/Melbourne mints

The mintmark is an "S" for Sydney mint which did not mint any proof sovereigns in 1899.

I got it for a song, $45 USD

Local show pickup today, nice ruthenium plated silver Krugerrand. Looks almost black in person, the pictures don't do it justice.

Thanks for replying. I do have a 2006 as you mentioned, but it's a PF68UC. Not interested unfortunately, good luck with the auction for it.
