Unidentified George V medal

Hi there. I found what appears to be a silver medal/token amongst a collection of items I recently acquired. I've tried to find a similar example, but with no luck.

The reverse side is marked with Wembley 1924, so I guess it's something to do with the exhibition. I'm hoping someone out there can help identify it.

Many thanks in advance.

There were an awful lot of white metal souvenir items made - by both the organisers and independent manufacturers - at that time so identifying the maker could be problematic. Memorabilia from then is still plentiful and relatively cheap for items that are nearly 100 years old.

Good luck.

This is to do with the British Empire Exhibition in Wembly in 1924.
The hole at the top of the medal appears to have been drilled in afterwards.

The quality of the piece appears low. The look of the medal is not that of silver, it does not look like silver to me, which is probably a disappointment.

It has the general appearance of this medal from the same period and was previously for sale on Etsy. This doesn't look like silver either.

Thanks sixgun and TeaTime. I wasn't expecting it to be worth anything much, it was more around it's purpose. I thought it may be a momento of the exhibition, just couldn't find a similar one on the web.

I normally collect music memorabilia, but sometimes other things come in with job lots. The attached has been in the drawer for some time. It's obvious a memento of Napoleon, but I've not been able to find any info on it. It appears to be plated in a very shiny, inert metal, as it has stayed in great condition, but the inner metal is visible in places. Any info would be appreciated.

Well unless you have given it a really good polish i would guess this is something like chrome plated and in your first photo the plate is coming off.

The second medalleon is even cheaper than the King George V medallion. The quality is shocking - it looks like it is very poorly cast - the definition is dreadful.
What is going on at the top edge of this medallion? Is this a sprue from a casting. It is a copy of something of a much higher quality. When you compare the pieces side-by-side.

I think it's the remains of a loop that snapped off at some point.

I wondered if it was originally plated, or if that was a later thing and accounts for the lack of definition?

i don't think this plating, or whatever it is, has affected the definition. If you look around you can find these cast copies of minting medallions. Some people make silver objects using lost-wax casting. A copy mould is made and then wax reproductions poured. This was repro is then put in a sand mould with sprues which is a treelike structure of wax that will eventually provide paths for the molten casting material to flow and for air to escape. This is why i asked if the lump at the top of the metal was a sprue. You get a pretty good copy but it isn't the quality of the minted medallion.
