Price difference in same coin ??

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks

How come a 2021 Britannia from Atkinsons and the same coin from the Royal Mint be differing prices, the Atkinson being cheaper by 71p at time of writing.

How can the coin from the manufacture be more expensive ?

Im presuming its because they buy in bulk but still, surely the RM have more than anyone else so I dont understand the diff 🙂

Simply because it is a free market and vendors can set prices as they choose i.e. the markup over what they pay the mint.

For much bigger variances see the Forum Comparison page below!

Think of it in simple terms.... Morrisons and Aldi buy their Warburtons Bread from Warburtons Bakery and both sell for different prices.... different companies charge different premiums and have different overheads... and live prices can have an effect too....

It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.

To add to the other replies, I'm sure the Mint would much prefer to shift thousands of coins at a time to dealers than deal with thousands of small orders. It's also in their interest to have their products reach as wide and far as possible - and then these dealers also often offer their premium products. Imagine the labour costs they save, alone - must be very much more than the quid or two other dealers then undercut them by. It's a mutually beneficial relationship.
