UK Lunar Box

Scuzzle

Recommended Posts

This is only tenuously silver related but I'm wondering since the Royal Mint decided not to bother with a 1oz lunar bullion coin this year completely ruining my lunar collection if there is any way to repurpose the display box.  There is a gold printed text on it which does not appear to be engraved in it only sits on the surface so I'm wondering if this is easy enough to come off.

This is the box, before I start on it with the petroleum based solvents does anyone know of a good safe way to strip the text off it so I could repurpose it possibly for another 1oz lunar series, one that the full run is actually honoured by it's producer.

Lighter fluid can remove a multiple of stains & sins @Scuzzle could be a good starting point

Evaporates off surface

Use with a none abrasive cotton pad

I'll give it a try Paul, the trick will be stripping the gold print only and not the lacquer coating, if it is laquer coated and not some kind of wood stain.

i had a gold metallic pen leak on my desk at work and lighter fluid got it all off without damaging surface

just have clean paper/clothes to hand to blot

try using it sparingly at first and just wet the tip of a Q-tip/ear bud and use a little force on tip

Probs best speaking to Alun who makes them for best guidance

If its a kind of screen print on the surface!?

1) nick the wifes hairdryer - warm the surface with care to not get too warm , and certainly NOT HOT!

2) Gaffer tape / Gorilla Tape (SUPER STICKY)

3) gently at first lay the tape over and let cool right down

4) Very lightly (well later when its gone cold from first)

extremely lightly warm the tape and then ease it back slowly and gently

5) You could try cutting the tape into very fine sliver and just run it down the "K" in kingdom and see if it does lift

6) if found to work ! Rinse and Repeat! 🤞👍
