Help with Graded 1831 Penny/Halfpenny

Purchased this from the Coin Cabinet Auction at the end of November.

Admittedly I received it, thought ‘very nice’ and put it away. I’m not that experienced but now I’ve had a chance to look at it it seems it’s a Halfpenny. Or I think it is anyway.

A couple of crude measurements comparing the graded coin to what I think is an actual 1831 Penny:

I also noticed when taking these pictures that the initials are W.W. and not .W.W as labeled by NGC.

Is it a **** up by NGC or am I being a bit thick and easily confused?

Cheers

The size indeed suggests a half penny.

If it were a penny, Spink says the version without the preceeding dot in WW is rare and worth a lot more than the type NGC have labelled it as.

I suggest you contact @TheCoinCabinet about this

Thanks Steve, I think I will do. I just wanted a few opinions from people with more experience than myself.

I'm late to this, but the coin in the slab is definitely a halfpenny and not a penny.

If it had been a penny, winning it for £100 would have been a massive result, even if cleaned.

Hopefully it will be easy to obtain a refund as the coin is not as described.  Even though the slab describes it as a penny, it isn't.
