How do you test your silver?

Hey guys. How do you test your silver?

I've always bought from trusted dealers but now looking to but more privately.

For coins a scale, calipers and magnet should do right?

What about bars? Scale magnet and specific gravity?

For coins, I just use the CCT magnet slide, and also The Fisch Coin Detector. It has different wallets to test almost all the different sovereign gold and silver, and even platinum coins. For the bars, I just use a button-type rare earth magnet. A Sigma Metalytics Precious Metal Verifier would be a better option, but it is a bit too expensive for me. As PM prices soar, unfortunately, fakes will also be abound.

Specific gravity is best cheap test.  Magnetic slide works good for coins but not fool proof.  One of those fancy machines is probably the best test but those are damn spendy.

I found calipers to be useless. You don't get unambigious results because coins don't have the same thickness everywhere. Even the diamater is tricky to measure. Before I got my Sigma Pro, I relied on specific gravity and magnet tests. Combined, they bring clarity but it's a pain in the .... to do this for every coin.
