Unsure of this South African gold coin

I bought this South African coin today at my local bullion dealers as it was cheap and just wanted to add weight to my stack. It weighs 3.04 grams so it's not a krugerrand but I can't find any info on it. It might not even be 22 carat for all I know. The dealer had a few random coins in his safe that he was unsure of, as in rarity. There was a gold American 1 dollar gold coin going for a few hundred and a few other smaller South American gold coins but I opted for this one.

He hadn't a clue what this was commemorating regarding the dates. Would this be a cheap copy and a lower carat coin?

Commemorative coin for Mr. Van Bouwmeester (1825-1904)?

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

Just looked him up and stumbled on this commemorative medallion and it's only 9 carat gold. I paid a little more than the cheap price but just rang the dealer who thought it was 22 carat. He said I can bring it back in tomorrow for a refund but wants to look it up with me in the morning to see what it actually is.

Thanks for all your help. Just got back off a night shift and had a look under a loupe and noticed 375 stamped on the side. Definitely going back this morning. Too low a gold content for me to bother with for my stack.

Cheers @barney for pointing out the hallmarks, made it easier when pointing out to the dealer in identifying it as 9 carat. He was apologetic and instantly refunded me. In his defence, he didn't know what it was and thought it was 22 carat. He has now marked it up as 9 carat and adjusted the price.
