What to stack??

The Swiss 1/2, 1, 2 & 5 Franc coins pre 1968 (plus the 1969 5 Franc Coin) were 835 silver and the exact same design coins are still in everyday use today, albeit Cupro Nickel. I collect these along with some pre war French and German silver coins and pre 1947/1920 British coins. I try to buy nice condition coins but I find the 925 British coins as well as some of the 900 US coins are usually very worn or very expensive in good condition. All these coins are a smallish part of my silver stack, I don't really worry about premium on these coins, if they are in my budget I buy them. IF the price of silver ever skyrockets in my lifetime, the relatively small premium I have paid on these coins won't matter anyway as I probably wouldn't be selling them otherwise.

Much of it depends on the reason you are stacking.  Constitutional silver has a large following so it is always easy to get rid of.  Sometimes it commands more of a premium than .999 FS and sometimes less.  Right now its about the same.  11X face (which is what I can get it for from my sources) translates to $15.38 per Oz.  I can get generic rounds for a little less than that right now.  On a personal level, I don't like constitution silver so for me the goal is 0%.  This is due to a couple of factors 1) the fact that I'd be stacking 90% silver means that I'd also be stacking 10% non-PM's.  If my goals is to stack silver, I want to stack silver, not something else.  2) Because it is not pure, many times, when selling to scrap, you can;t get as much for it.

THe primary reason I stack silver is because I think silver is grossly undervalued due to its myriad of industrial uses and I feel that there will eventually be a valuation correction.  I don't believe in the SHTF scenario.  All this being said, the % you chose to hold in your stack has to be correlated with your reason for stacking AND your exit strategy.

11x face well low, I might need you to stock up for me as well aha

Just one thing to look out for when buying “constitutional silver” is if the coins are heavily circulated vs uncirculated or close to it. Some dealers when they buy it back will weigh it instead of using a face value calculation. This is due the fact that heavily worn coins weigh less than uncirculated or close to uncirculated. It may be wiser just to weigh the coins and then calculate on the weight the actual silver value you have.

I used to buy and sell a lot of junk silver and found that it was just easier for me to get silver eagles.

Good luck

I understand that's good advice  it when I go to buy from my regular lcs I get to go through the whole bag witch contains about 75 to 100 face value and I always pick out the best looking coins for that part of my stack. To me it dont matter if they are modern or yesteryear coins as long as there in good condition!!!

I stack all sorts of world silver partly because premiums in the U.K. are lower on it than pure silver and the future numismatic value adds an additional hedge against prices.

I know for a fact that a lot of these coins get melted each year and supply will keep diminishing.

I absolutely agree with you and that is the same reason that this tipe of silver makes up the best % of my stack. With saying that I only have American constitutional silver not because I dont want any other kind but because that's the only kind I'm comfortable with. I just dont have the knowledge yet to stack anything else yet. But branching out into other kinds is what I'm trying to do now and every day I'm learning from you all and for that I thank you!
