Hi, I found this 1800 u.s coin from my grandmother's safe. However there is one problem. As soon as I saw this coin it looked fake. I don't know much about it and I would like your opinions on it. Thanks. (I can only upload one picture of coin to see the other check my other post)

I have no idea but why would you keep a fake worthless coin in a safe? Hopefully grandma knew it was real and put it there so nobody threw it in the bin????

I hope another member with specialist knowledge can give you some info soon. I hope it’s good news, good luck!

I don't know about it being a fake but it looks like the coin might open somehow as if you look at the rim it overlaps nearly 1/2 the coin. Sometimes these types of old coins contain photos or locks of hair. I saw an old gold coin that concealed a watch.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

wow, very interesting I don't want to damage anything yet but I really hope it is genuine. Would be a shame if not. Thanks for the comment

lots of folk on here will give you advice on sniffing coins,

causes a bit of debate.

i dont think it is a hollow coin, they dont usually have an overlap like yours

and they are current coinage too
