Why are half sovereigns not as collectible as full sovereigns?

A word of caution to all newbies - can you honestly tell the difference between a half sovereign and a full sovereign if someone gave you one to examine ?

Forget the scales and the ruler - if you haven't seen or handled both for a year or so it is an interesting test.

Good shout. I bought a half on ebay that was advertised as a full. Seller was fine about resolving it immediately, so I don't think it was deliberate. We agreed a partial refund to equal the correct cost. Some people simply do not know the difference.

Full Sovereign been ‘the sovereign’ that everyone collect , half sovereign always the second option ,,

like what you said @BigDave84 the half sovereign still carry a small premium

but the full sells for same price as the double Sovereign if not more

2012 proof full sov going that way

I would expect an experienced collector to be able to tell blindfolded:D
