  1. I have some 2022s already but I see they're pricier than mix dates. Are the old Sovs any good for stacking? Some of them date back to the 1970s so if they're that old I'm wondering if they'd be harder to sell if they look dingy. Is the premium for the 2022s only because they are new and nothing else?
  2. If you can afford to lose it, I would hold onto it because the potential gains would be worth more than the loss, if that makes sense.
  3. Yes I expect the customs form. It's this coin and I guess I'd declare it as 'gold plated commemorative coin' or something. Again my concern is US customs might open the package to test it's not a real gold coin, otherwise people would send real gold and pretend it's plated, right? I wouldn't put it past them.
  4. OK I've searched my specific query on Google already without finding an answer so in order to ask it here, I'll double it up and say GOLD to the US in case anyone else finds the answers useful. But my specific query is sending a gold PLATED coin to the US. I'm trying to send a fancy letter to prospective employers out there, but it would obviously kill my efforts if US customs opened the package to check it's not a real gold coin being smuggled under a pretence of it being gold plated. Anyone in the know? Of course if normal gold doesn't usually get intercepted then I guess I'm safe with a gold plated coin. Thanks in advance.
  5. I bought 5 the other day, I never cease to be underwhelmed by Sovs and how much they look like 1p pieces fresh from the Mint. It's the copper plating. Even more so the 2022s and their Queen coat of arms on the tails side. I think they'll limit production of them this Jubilee year.
  6. The silver I have feels like a ball & chain now. Bulky, heavy and space consuming. It was a good deal during the downturn but I fully intend to swap it for gold when the time is right. Gold is so much more efficient and reliable. Silver is good if you like a bit of speculating but gold is the better hedge against inflation. Just watching the GSR for the right time to swap.
  7. While it's true that literal VAT is not charged in the trading section of the forum, to manage expectations keep in mind the 20% margin is pretty much still there, plus the usual mark up as well. Probably fair enough given the UK marketplace is VAT saturated, a seller on here can just add the "ghost" VAT with a slight undercut (say, 18%) and still give the buyer a "bargain" while taking close to full price.
  8. Beats me why anyone would stack silver with no VAT loophole any more. I've moved more to gold which is a pity as the GSR would still be a really good silver buy right now. But yeah... VAT. The only possible factor to make me want to swallow the VAT (and it doesn't) is that you effectively sell the 20% back to the buyer when the time comes. Look at all silver being sold either here or eBay, the 20% is clearly added to the price, whether that's the VAT or not. But it's time I paid more love to gold now anyway, this VAT has just nudged me in the right direction finally.
  9. I second this post. We're not dodgy, we just don't like being put through all of that and I only buy from brokers who don't ask for this sort of information.
  10. Honestly, your own explanation was clearer and more succinct than your page's! It says "you may be required" and then went on to cover every scenario, all of which required ID, without telling us when it's not required. I think most people on this forum are Joe Publics who don't deal (although I hope none of us walks the streets with Adidas hoodies!).
  11. As I understand it, there is no legal obligation to take ID for selling a couple of gold Sovs to Joe Public, or anything below £5,000.
