I had something similar years ago . With hindsight it was terrible fake , i sent it to Chards who confirmed it was a counterfeit , but the gold content was higher than a sovereign and they offered me a good price for it. That is one collection i'd love to see. Chads collection of fakes.

The "Made in China" on the reverse gives it away too .

This is the reason everyone should have at least 100 sovereigns of each monarch . So coins can be compared against each other.

Send it to Chards . If it is a fake keep it for reference . It is good you had suspicions in the first place.

There are some more interesting variants of the 1860 I'd say. To be brutal because of the condition I'd say James is probably spot on. -
I never fancied having anything to do with Metro from the off , when a big fancy bank opened in our town. When bank branches are closing all over the country the opening hours of Metro bank made no sense . I'd hate to think of the consequences of them going bust and having a safe deposit box with them i decided my sock draw was fine.
