  1. Imo always buy coins you like, not as a gamble, especially when they are high value coins. So even if you just break even when the time comes to sell, at least you will have had the enjoyment of having owned it in your collection for however long you did. If it makes a profit, great. If not, you won’t have lost anything, hopefully.
  2. By the way, I acknowledge my source was partly wrong, as was the rumour mill. They had said no 5oz silver as some denominations were scrapped. It looks like the 5oz and 10oz gold have been scrapped; not to mention some of the even bigger denominations like 1 kilo silver and 2 kilo gold etc.
  3. That’s pretty much what I had suggested to the RM some years back when they had sent out a survey about the types of ranges we’d like to see. A range of G&D from the beginning of the RM’s history. (The Angel coins would indeed be out of this world!) I had also suggested resurrecting old coin designs. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
  4. This is the RM’s prestige series. They have rectified with mintages this time around. They aren’t going to kill this series. There are numerous other iconic coins they can do that would be appealing to majority of collectors worldwide who’ll never be able to afford the originals.
  5. I’ll call it - another George and the Dragon, followed by another, and yet another, as I’ve said before (1910 and 1935), for a run of G&Ds. 😎
  6. Thankfully I’m not into grading so that wouldn’t bother me - I’d like a larger surface area coin with a nice big bold design any day. 😎
  7. Doesn’t seem like it. And they all a generalised grade as they’ve been bill graded. So I don’t see why the numbers would matter - it’s like a COA I suppose to just tell you which #x out of the total #y you have.
  8. The matte finish is definitely looking rather sexy. At least on the silver.
  9. I get you on some level… but what makes the woman a depiction of Una besides the fact the RM says it is? Rhetorical question. 🙂 When William Wyon did the original, he did so to honour the young Queen Victoria (who had ascended the throne at the age of 18) by drawing upon the ideas from the Faerie Queene by Edmund Spencer - Una (a young Queen Victoria) leading a mighty lion (the UK). Una and the Lion as depicted on a coin is filled with deep meaning, and imo ‘belongs’ to Queen Victoria. Hence my continuous wondering as to what makes any random woman ‘Una’. Britannia on the other hand has always been symbolic of the UK itself so I can understand its design ‘evolving’ (for better or for worse).
  10. I will reiterate until everyone gets tired of me doing so… it’s a travesty to use the iconic ‘Una and the Lion’ descriptor for some random depiction of a woman with a lion.
  11. If this becomes Una and the Lion 2.0 we could take every Thursday off for the next forever. 😛
  12. The general term for a raised design would be “emboss” but I’ve never seen it used on coins.
  13. Apparently it was Charles who wanted to move away from Latin in order to be more accessible to the people. He also apparently wanted to do away with DEI GRA but let’s not even go there. 🙄
  14. I think I may have understood a nuance here… The RM person said they don’t plan to redo the coin because of the change of Monarch. Since this change, has there been any coin that has the same reverse but different Monarchs (QE II and KC III) on the obverse for proof versus bullion? I think this might be the nuance. The fact that the proof had QE II, and a new Proclamation will have to be issued if KC III is to be on the obverse of the bullion.
  15. The Gazette Proclamation states: The coin shall have a plain edge and in excuse letters the inscription “DECUS ET TUTAMEN · ANNO REGNI II · The RM may have made up the word ‘excuse’ in this context, but definitely they mean ‘raised edge’, and not incuse.
  16. Many series have changed Monarchs. I don’t see why the Tudor Beasts would be an exception. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  17. I think you have hit the nail on the head with your clever bit of deduction! 😎 And yes… rather odd that today’s tech can’t replicate the originals. 🫤
  18. Thanks @GoldDiggerDave my friend. I appreciate the help and sources. I’ll pass the message on and see what my friend has to say.
  19. I’ll ask for more pics and post here. Thanks so much for offering advice.
  20. A friend of mine purchased this coin from a local dealer and is now doubting it’s authenticity. All he knows is that it is Emperor Trajan, and was told it weighs 2.5 grams and is silver. He’s not too bothered as he apparently didn’t pay a lot, but for the sake of his curiosity, he’d like to know if anyone online could give their opinions. I offered to ask on TSF. TIA for any help (and jokes!) 😀
