  1. First effort at posting pics so please go easy on the ridicule! 😊
  2. I did go and look at the sites you suggested, I have always done my "window" shopping on the dealer sites that are mainly RM based releases and talked about on this excellent forum in my short coin life, others I have looked at initially caused confusion due to the variety of unknown(to me coins) listed, the new issues on these sites are, as you say and being polite - expensive also with a little more hands on experience with the good stuff, the quality is not really there and some are downright amateurish and even ugly, the description on the auction site was a little lacking so a good lesson learnt!
  3. Good advice, thank you, bit more of a learning curve, particularly to be a bit more careful with auction descriptions! however, not too disappointed as I was luckier on some other lots!
  4. interesting comment "peddling similar stuff" noticed some are listed on Chards! 😕 No secret I paid £420
  5. No secret, I paid £420 but was not aware that is was a Tristan da Cunha, not a problem as I do like it and it makes a change from the "usual" sovereign designs!
  6. Good evening all Hoping the knowledgable collective here can provide some information on the following coin, it is a "2022 Queen Elizabeth 11 Platinum Jubilee Gold Proof Sovereign" the reverse has the coronation portrait (which I really like!) produced for Tristan da Cunha and sold by Harrington & Byrne, limited mintage of 999, I purchased it at an auction for what I think is a reasonable price but would like to know how it stacks up against the Royal Mint edition (which I also have) particularly what value would be put on it, no idea what its original sale price was as there is nothing on HB that I can find. Thanks in anticipation
  7. If they (QB) are available at reasonable premiums I would consider both as a long term project, just have to see what's around 😊
  8. Thanks all for your comments and advice, all of which have been really helpful, so QB's are out (certainly in gold) and reckon I will go with TB's, must have been a magpie in a previous life - so many lovely bits of glitter around! 😊😊
  9. My aim is to have "collectable" coins and bullion coins, currently needing to be in bullion mode, I have been adding bullion sovereigns and now a couple of Brittanias, problem is I get drawn to the more interesting coins, I am now looking at aquiring more 1oz gold coins and really fancy starting a run to satisfy the collecting urge but at the same time sticking to bullion, I am currently looking at the Queens beasts or the Tudor beasts, in your knowledgeble experiance, which of these two would you advise going for and why, I really want to keep premiums paid in check and not to find myself having to pay higher and higher premiums because certain coins are getting more and more difficult to source. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
  10. This one has ended, apparently selling for £275 "photo's part of description" got to be a winner! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2012-Half-Sovereign-Solid-Gold-22ct-Jubilee-Day-Reverse-Coin-Collectible-4-0g-/385180537536?nma=true&si=O4gZ62JioYnO9JNB2L8U77F%2BX0w%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  11. Could it be that you will not be boring the "other half" with gold and silver talk? or could it be the retail therapy itch is more easily scratched as the brain is not functioning properly and purchases are easier (bit like ebay deals that are then regretted next morning)?
  12. This is the one I am currently leaning to or the Masterpiece 1oz but have no feedback on the 1oz as yet, funds are driving the ultimate decision as I am a bit spent out! Any comments on the 1oz?
  13. Good morning all, like many, I really like the Una and the Lion design by William Wyon so before posting a wanted ad. I thought I would ask you folkes which you think is the best, presumably silver coin, I have seen the Masterpiece 1oz on offer but are there any good alternatives? must be coin, must be pm and must be the William Wyon design. Cheers
  14. I have dealt with several copyright infringements in the past (nothing to do with PM,s or coins), Google do tend to take action if they can see the infringement on say a website but not ebay, the only result I had with ebay sellers was serious threats of legal action against them in person but if they front it out are you prepared to go down this route? - luckily mine caved in!
  15. Thanks, that's really helpful, I have a reasonable camera but if that fails I know someone who could possibly help so will get back.
  16. The quintuple I returned because of the poor quality has been replaced, originally I was going for a refund but changed my mind at the last minute, considering events of the last few days I am glad I did. The replacement seems to be perfect! nothing like the first, I studied it through a 2.5 loupe under a good light and cannot find a fault (keep in mind I am new at this!) the replacement was No. 160 whereas the first was something like 370 so how does this come about? does anybody know how the coins and the numbers are actually allocated and distributed? If the coin is as good as I think (how do I find out?) would the knowledgeable on here recommend having this graded? its one for keeps but my daughter may have other ideas. Thanks for your help on this.
  17. 5 Sovereign arrived yesterday but only managed to have a good look today (under a loupe and good light) spurred on by the posts here, really could not believe what I found, on the reverse 2 very noticeable "dings" and at least 12 flecks on the frosting, the obverse was not much better, at least 10 spots of missing? frosting. I have only been involved with gold coins for a few months and this was my first major purchase from RM, not impressed and very disappointed. The coin is going back, as james32 said "once seen it can't be unseen" a major learning curve and all thanks to you guys! Cheers
  18. According to tracking, my order is being "processed" (by R. Mint) Royal Mail are "waiting for the item" item will arrive by Tuesday 30th August (R. Mint) but didn't say what year! 😒
  19. Books (as recommended) arrived today, what a wealth of information! thank you Chards, next problem needing advice is how do I convince my wife that the cash in the bank is better invested in gold? must be an age old problem? cheers.
  20. Thanks for your help, books ordered (hopefully - bit of a problem with the ordering system) I am also a newbie paid up Silver member!!!
  21. Good morning all. have stacked silver in a small way since 2015 as a means of hopefully saving my money, this year I have moved into gold following the more traditional routes of sovereigns and britannias which I have found increasingly interesting ! the internet is a great place for info. but I do like books, there are many dealing with sovereigns and brittanias some of which are sold by dealers on here (the books that is), what would you good people recommend? I am looking for information, historical, mintages, collectability etc. Thanks.
  22. Thanks to one and all, big learning curve but that's what is all about for me at the moment..
  23. As a newbie to this forum and coin collecting (I have introduced myself on the newcomers forum) I could do with a bit of advice, a bit of background, importantly, I am new at this and decided to invest a lump sum into gold, this has been refined (pun intended) into coins and mainly sovereigns, one or two gold Brittanias, I have been offered a set made up from individual coins, these are: 1 x 1994 1oz proof pf70 ultra cameo, 1 x 1994 1/2 oz proof pf69 ultra cameo, 1 x 1994 1/4 oz proof pf69 ultra cameo and 1 x 1994 1/10 oz proof pf67 ultra cameo They are from a reputable dealer, my search finds very little availability and what is offered is at a higher price, nitty gritty, offered to me for sub £7000, I would really appreciate your thoughts and comments. Thanks.
  24. Thanks for such a welcome, until discovering this forum, as a beginner I felt a bit out on my own so its good to see such diverse interests along with so much knowledge! Re. Bath Spa, having made a query regarding prices I was contacted by them, I am of an age that I will check everything out, especially when it involves money! I was quite impressed with their "presentation" and could find nothing to flag up any warnings, they specialize in proof coins and to a novice their advice made sense, having made a purchase from Atkinsons I felt confident to give Bath Spa a go and I was happy with the purchase, coins and quality were as advertised and price was comparative to other suppliers mentioned on here, so far so good. I was looking to buy from them again but after spending a bit of time on here I am confident to sound out the recommendations from yourselves and hopefully will get a better idea as to the direction I want to head in, as they say best not to have all your eggs in one basket. Cheers.
  25. Thank you for the welcome, as dealers have been mentioned as above, thank you Orpster, how do members on here view Bath Spa Capital? Long learning curve ahead but good to start!
