  9. Yes I drink and collect! Trouble is with Whisky and Rum even for collectables I used to try to drink one and keep one but given the frenzy over some releases you're lucky if you get one these days with all the Bots, WhatappSIgnal/Slack/ groups etc used people who see it primarily as an investment.
  10. Sovereignty should be landing in the UK soon but not quite sure when. Still looking for next Caroni / Velier to tap into. https://rumshopboy.com/2022/05/11/foursquareexceptional-cask-selection-xix-sovereignty/
  11. I thought you were going to - especially of you have 2?
  12. I'm not an accountant either but I did research investing surplus cash / retained profits in my company. Unless you were explicitly setting up as a dealer / jewellery maker, if PMs were bought as a business investment and were deemed substantial compared to your actual trading activity. then you might be considered a closed investment company which will be subject to the full 25% corporation tax from 2023 (as opposed to 19% if your profits are less than £50K pa) and would also exclude you from entrepreneurs relief if you decided to sell the company. Buying PMs as a corporate investment wouldn't exempt you from paying corporation tax on the surplus cash used to purchase the PMs as effectively these would be retained profits (i.e. as opposed to a business expense you can offset against corporation tax). If the PMs are bought as legal UK tender then in theory its CGT exempt when the company sells (assuming the price has risen), but you'd then still need to plan when to most efficiently sell the assets and the tax implications of personally extracting it as pension contributions, dividends or wages etc. I suppose deferring disposal to a year where your expenses were greater / conventional profits smaller might be useful (assuming your business is under the micro-entity threshold to qualify for only paying tax when investments are realised)?
  13. Hi - have you looked at the Let's Talk Whisky thread? I think most of what you've asked has been covered. I don't think the bullion analogy quite works for main stream bottlings - some like Macallans may increase in value if the standard offer changes for example when Macallan started using Bourbon casks from around 2004, which led some to believe only pre-2004 editions are 'truly Macallan'. Similarly they changed the Fine Oak series in 2017, scrapping some versions like the 10, 21 and 30 year old, making these more sought after. That is the exception rather than the rule though. If you want a bullion approach probably best to look at investment in casks - the business model for most is to buy or share the purchase of a (new make or young) cask and mature it and then sell it to a bottler via a broker after it has matured for a few years, gaining the benefit in the increase in value as an older spirit. its basically the model for Whiskyinvestdirect for example who act as a a broker and store the whisky for a fee too. You can then buy and sell at volume without having to find somewhere to store it all. The other benefit of casks is that as a wasting asset they are not subject to capital gains tax.
  14. Yeah a lot of flippers jumped on the Indelible. I got 2 at roughly retail price (cheaper than this) from auction a few months back. But given the popularity of the four square series it should be worth holding over the longer term. Caroni is where the real money is - especially the Velier expressions but that ship has sailed. Hampdens might be next popular distillery.

  16. If you can't see anything that's great as I said difficult to tell I've marked the two in blue plus another two on the left that might be the light just so you know where I was looking. In all the silver Tudor beasts I've sent back rim dings have been most common so I tend hunt for them!
  17. I've spoken to the Royal Mint a couple of times in issue numbers and be told that they often don't do the whole mintage run in one batch. Hence the delay for some.
  18. I've cancelled my subscription for the silver 2 OZ's yesterday after returning my initial Lion and a replacement due to poor quality. They still haven't resolved the issue with the 4 Panther coins I ordered six months ago. They sent the 2 x 1 Oz' s off to a third party assessor two months ago which haven't come back and they just keep spamming me with defective replacement 2 Oz's. The quality control has been atrocious although I've noticed the capsules have also been loose on the last 3-4 coins sent which I think is also part of the problem. In contrast I've never had an issue with any of the 1/4 Oz golds, which all have foam pad inserts to protect the coin if the capsule does work loose. So I'd rather have the money back and buy an extra 2022 bullion sovereign. Debating whether to send a third and final letter to the Chief Executive...
  19. You joke but its sort of true! They've got an independent reviewer for the last batch I've sent back as they've said one of the coins passed their manual visual and automated quality checks. I've been told its not a grading company they'll use. Despite various Directors being involved it didnt prevent them accidentally sending me another pair of 2 oz Panthers. Both need to go back again (coins 16 and 17?). On the flipside got my 1/4 oz Lion today and that was fine! I notice though that has a foam insert to protect the coin that the silver coins dont have.
  20. Got this response from the Chief executive yesterday so lets see. I am so sorry that we have been unable to resolve your issues. I will investigate fully tomorrow and make sure we let you know how we plan to resolve this. Best wishes Anne
  21. Just sent email No2 to the RM Chief Exec and returned my supposed restrikes. Dear Ms Jessopp, I sent you an email on 6th November 2021, complaining about the poor quality of the 1oz and 2oz coins Silver Proof Seymour Panther Tudor Beast coins I received. Three months since sending that email I am still waiting to receive my coins to a proof standard. This is after returning 15 defective coins. This includes the 4 most recent coins I received on 2nd February 2022 which I had to wait nearly 2 months for while they were being restruck and directly inspected by the production manager. Despite these assurances these coins also possessed defects that are clearly visible to the naked eye, and I have had to return them. To me this suggests that either. There was no adequate quality check on these coins before they were sent as was promised. The packaging Royal mint uses is insufficient to protect the coins in transit I find it completely unacceptable that I have to wait over 4 months since the original purchase I made and return 15 coins to date and I am still yet to receive a set of Silver proofs of an acceptable standard. I believe this clearly demonstrates significant failings in your quality control processes that you need to address. I would therefore like confirmation of the steps that will be taken to provide the coins I have ordered to a ‘proof’ standard. I would also like to know how the Royal mint proposes to redeem itself given the ongoing inconvenience this has caused to me over the last 4 months. For your awareness I am a member of the www.thesilverforum.com and will be posting this email on that website, as I am aware I am not the only one of your customers to have suffered significant issues with the quality of your products recently. I look forward to your response.
  22. So 4 months after the initial order I finally got my restruck 2x 10z and 2x 2oz silver panthers from the Royal Mint that were checked by the production manager before they were sent to me. I will be sending them back again as they are just as bad as the previous 11 coins! Its just woeful. I've sent an email to their customer engagement manager but to be honest unless they offer some kind of compensation I'm going to cancel my standing order for the 1oz and 2oz collections and write to the chief executive again. Either Royal mInt production quality just isn't good enough on the silver (plus I think one of this batch might have an emerging milk spot), or the packaging isn't robust enough to protect the coins in transit. But you'd think by now they'd be able to get at least on e coin right!. The last picture is actually fibres inside the capsule but again I'm not sure how a piece that big got in if it was properly checked?
