Gold in Tank….Poor chap didn’t get a penny…

Recommended Posts

Poor chap. But I can understand the conundrum he faced. He wasn’t by himself when he made the discovery. And people talk. Holding on to those bars would have put a giant target on his back. Then again as previously stated, perhaps he only turned in part of the loot and split the rest with the other guy.

He bought the vehicle outright, found the bars hidden within the fuel tank.

I can't see why he had to inform any 'authority' about anything. It was his own private property, wasn't it?

It was not leased/rented, neither did he have restrictive terms of sale - nothing such was mentioned.

There were no health&safety issues involved, where he would feel the need to inform 'authorities' for safe disposal.  They were not radioactive bars for example.

Only becuse its possibly stolen loot but its been that long and the tanks been in the uk a long time, no one would have known if he had kept it all for him self. Only thing he needed to do was sell it off slowly in bits and not raise to many questions where its come from.

The term 'stolen' can be hazy when we're talking about gold.

Gold that comes from an old Swiss vault, could it be stolen? What about the bars made out of teeth, rings etc? What about those deposited by German Jews and never reclaimed successfully?

Even then, what about the origin of that gold before it was appropriated by the Swiss bankers? Was it ethically sourced? Could it be the product of usury? Probably.  The list goes back

And don't get me started on the gold leaking out of Fort Knox, which was sent there by the 'allies' during WW2, which was first taken from European citizens allegedly for the war effort, blah blah

This gold was not exactly the direct proceeds of the Brink's Mat robbery

I cant see them ever proving where its come from, to prove its stolen. I also cant see the police giving it up now, without it been disputed or been made a big deal that there just sitting on it.

Very likely they'll all sit on it, and when the whole story dies out it will turn out the bars were fake - see, they were fake all along.

Move along, nothing to see here..

(As you suspect we'll have to take their word about the fakery, no way they would do a switcheroo, right?)

That is assumming they will not just disappear from the evidence room, like sooo many other items.

*poof* ....and it's gone...
