Hello, just joined this evening.  I have been buying silver for about two months.  Started with Eagles, dabbled in the Maple Leafs, Kookaburras, and Pandas.  Am trying to figure out where to concentrate on my silver buying journey.  Would welcome any advice on slabbed coins, as I have none at the moment and have no idea where I should start.  I am partial to the 1 oz coins as they seem to be the most popular.

Looking forward to some good conversation about silver coins!

Hi and welcome.

As a beginner you will find members on the forum who have expertise in all the precious metal categories.

Living in the USA your focus should be on American eagles.  They are highly liquid and are available everywhere.  Deals can be found on them through the various big bullion dealers, Apmex, Bullion EXchanges, etc.

getting into slabbed coins is a whole other story.

Basically if you are buying graded coins you will need to know the following:

1) only buy ngc or pcgs graded coins

2) never buy a coin graded ms68 or less for more than you can buy an ungraded coin (it will only be worth the bullion value of the coin)

3) there are various attributes that make certain graded coins more desirable and valuable than others. For example:

American eagles are released from the mint to dealers - dealers take these coins and send them to ngc for grading and stabbing.  The coins could be graded the following:

ms70- first day of issue

ms70- early or first releases

ms70

etc.

then there are specialty labels which could add value, etc.

actually there is to much for me to write here.

Check out the pcgs or ngc websites and review all there grading and specialty items.

4) set up a plan and give it a go

hope this helps
