Am I getting paranoid

Recommended Posts

Just received my Gold Tudor Beasts Seymour Unicorn Coin and the reverse has two feint scratches highlighted by the red arrow in the attached photo.

Need a few answers

1. Am I being paranoid in looking too closely at these scratches

2. Have I just got it in for the RM and their usual poor quality control.

In the same package I received my 2024 Chinese gold Panda, perfect and blemish free as always.

Just RM quality control I guess.

The pandas are essentially semi proof so better quality. Probably individually picked from the press. RM bullion are thrown into tubes at the mint then thrown out by dealers, so there are bound to be scratches.

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.

Bullion coins you have to expect it. Although when spending extra money on ‘premium’ bullion coins I can understand the frustration.

I think is just me being in a bloody bad mood from other happenings today. As stated yes bullion, not that this fact should be an excuse for poor quality control, enter RM centre left.

Cannot understand why RM, as mentioned by SeverinDogsSovereigns, deem it acceptable to pile a load of coins into a tube on top of each other. Too much at ask to just put a sliver

of paper between each? Would appear so.

See above.  There are threads on here where bullion customers have had a refund or exchange but they are few and far in between.

It's not paranoia if they are out to get you.

However, eyeballing coins from a company known to have dodgy quality control hardly qualifies as paranoia.

My view is that with modern manufacturing technology, there's really no excuse for the coins not to be minted to MS70 standard.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

They are minted perfectly I think. Unfortunately, they're then dragged off the production line and brutally tortured.

This could have been a marketing strategy to sell more proofs, were it not for their equally appalling quality. I can't think of anything but deliberate negligence.

Just send it back. Obviously disappointing for you to say the least. If they get funny, get a refund and get from somewhere else? Never bought anything as nice as this from the mint, but never had issues (so far) with what I have bought, this isn’t really acceptable. Quality assurance?🤔🫢 Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Did not buy from RM I got it off Bleyer who to give them their due have always been good. As I say I was in a bad mood so this just pushed me over the top when I inspected the coin.

In the light of day is always a bit pot luck what one gets with a RM coin.

Did once get an exchange from Atkinsons but that should never have been sent out in the first place.
