Scrap 999 (99.99%) melt & assay

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon all,

found this forum when looking for what to do with my scrap silver.

I bought 99.99% pure silver anodes from Metalor, for use in electroplating silver.

I have around 2Kg of ‘ends’ holes drilled in them, for where they connect to side of tank. They vary in weight but roughly 75g-100g an end.

ultimately I plan to sell them, but think probably best to have them melted into a bar and analysed to fetch the best price.. I could buy kit to melt them myself but will still need someone to verify it’s what I say it is.

Where is best to get this done? and what kind of price can I expect to achieve? Where is the best place to sell?

not expecting market value, but is £500/kg achievable with my scrap?

well below spot (£600/kg) so I would have thought ideal for someone producing silver castings.

If you're only expecting a low return as stated I think Steve's suggestion is a good one; sell it to an established individual or group that makes silver products. They may want to analyse before paying out but it would be a safe play if you used one of the well known members on TSF.

Stick a sales post up with pictures of what you have and set a price?
