Today I received a 1925 Sovereign SA (https://www.shop-goudwisselkantoor.nl/goud-kopen/munten/gouden-sovereign-pond-divers-jaar price is quite fair with €1,65 per gram over spot).

I was wondering if that could be a re-strike. Or is it only London who did that.

Thanks you all!

My understanding is that it was only the London one that was re-struck.

Why would you think it might be a restrike?

I presume you do mean an actual official restrike as opposed to the euphemism "restrike" meaning fake.

There is no record of the Pretoria Mint in South Africa minting or issuing restrikes.

It is well known and documented that the Royal Mint did restrike 1925 London Mint sovereigns between 1949 and 1951:

Thank you for your quick replies!

I indeed mean the official restrike as only done by the Royal Mint.

So it only was London who did do that and I got a genuine 1925 SA yesterday! Given the quality I got, they didn't make a penny profit on me.

Once again this forum is a great help! Thank you!

It might be worth you counting the edge serrations:

As you can see, this genuine original 1925-SA has 121.

Some of the "restrikes" made in the Netherlands only have 120, while the ones made in Lebanon often have 122.
