Looking at buying half sovereigns on a regular basis. 

Would buying through the forum be more beneficial to members or not?

I use various sources 

Auctions 

Local coin shop

Local collectors 

And

Various Forums.

In theory buying from Forum members should give best, or very competitive, prices as members don't have the overheads of staff and premises etc to factor in as a business but members will not be wanting to sell at a loss either, so all depends on the movement of gold prices. Dealers like HGM are operating on the basis that half sovereigns are pretty much sold the same day they are receipted and with their bid/ offer spread they can make a small but tidy profit.
