Antique heavy metal chain(pocket watch chain I think) pocket watch fully working

Recommended Posts

Hi all I have found a very interesting solid heavy chain with penknife attached to it and since found out the pocket watch that was with it should be too a pocket watch chain I think. The penknife markings are 9 .375 a S&P and the chain 901 with 56 stamped on links. It has a high shine but just don’t know metal it actually is. Can anybody help me with this... I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance

The 56 on each of the links could be a Russian gold standard which would equate to 56/96 ( I think it is 96 you would need to look this up) the pen knife if it 375 is 9 ct and a later addition.

S&P is a makers mark.

901 could mean 901 Silver/Plat however if it is part of the chain this is more than unlikely, so is a possible that it is not 901 but a makers stamp or date, ie 1901.

My bet would be that it is the makers Mark.
