Pre 45 coins

CWB

Recommended Posts

I am new to the forum and collecting coins having recently discovered English pre-decimal coins.

Someone has offered to sell me a quantity of silver coins dated 1920-45. Are these worth stacking? Can anyone recommend what price I should pay for junk silver and can a profit be made from 50% silver?

Any advise would be appreciated.

It is very difficult to find them at spot price now. If you are following ebay auctions, you will see that pre47 silver coins are selling in bulk around £0.35-£0.38/g plus shipping, equivalent £0.70-£0.76/g plus shipping pure silver and there are a lot of bidders. Small quantities are selling usual at a higher price, going up to 50% premium if you are paying shipping for two or three coins.

For an example, I will attach few links on ended auctions on ebay:

Now, it is almost impossible to buy them without a little premium. A decent one is max plus 15% over spot.

Pre20 silver coins are going on ebay even more, over 30% premium, it is not any point to buy them more than 15%.

You are asking if is worth staking? Yes. It is still silver. When you will have a treasure box full few kg of coins and the spot price will rise, you will be happy, believe me.

Happy stacking!

Stefan.

Stefan is right, if you buy in bulk there seems to be a premium. If you are looking for just the coins it is possible to get it close to spot and under. Best if you do your own research, I will put some links to "today's"sold. All depends on how you like to stack. If you want it all now, then pay the premium. Do it in little bits over time it's more cost effective.

High.

Just done a screenshot of one of my spreadsheets based on £18 per Oz.

If it's a mate. Then he would get less weighing it in and more on a pier to pier sale.

I've needed to do these sums with a calculator, that spreadsheet looks quite nifty. I think it's a good idea for a tool for premium members on this forum

I'm a bit of a auction addict. You can create one in about 20 mins on Google sheets. I use this one for eBay mixed lots so I have a idea what I am bidding on. There are more columns to add volume.

Ignore the bullion grade section, I wouldn't buy that at auction.
