Just been speaking with a vending machine engineer at work about the new pound coins. They have been informed by the royal mint that the old pound coins will only take 6 months to be taken out of circulation. I would suggest getting sets of circulated coins put together because there could be an opportunity for some quick profits when these coins are out of circulation

For some reason just collecting normal/ non-precious metal coins seems a bit train spotter-ish

 

Even so I'm not sure there is a great deal which is collectable about the one pound designs.  There are the capital cites recently but I'm not sure about those either (even though Edinburgh is supposed to be a low mintage relative to the others).
