Hi. Im interested in buying silver from Australia off of a dealer via Ebay

I have asked him if he can avoid the charge of me getting stung by VAT when it arrives in the UK

He has said to me that he will list the item as under $15....

Will that stop me from getting charged? Or what is it that he has to do for me not to get charged?

If you could help me it'll be ever so greatful  :D

You should get away with it but it's no guarantee. Anything over £15 is taxable and it depends if the customs officer decides to add postage on top of the declaration. Usually they don't but they sometimes do. Or they could open the contents as a random check and decide it's worth more and charge you based upon what they think it's worth.

Just tick the gift box on the declaration. That raises the limit to £36. Don't have obvious business marking on the package such as business name and address and never include a receipt or invoice with actual value of contents.

In my experience they will always charge VAT on the cost of the items plus postage. I called to complain the first time this happened as I could not work out why they had charged me so much. They told me they will always charge for the postage too. Thieving ***

It is pot luck what you might get away with. Put a low value, tick gift, list it as souvenirs! But if they get suspicious and open it you just landed ina whole heap of doo doo.

I'd bet you can get the coins you want more easily.
