Hi all just reaching out to the community for information/links on the above mentioned.

I've started picking up a few sixpences/shillings and threepences at the local car boot

I'm looking to focus more so on crowns in the future but I'm having issues finding much information about counterfeits.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You don’t think half crowns were commonly faked?  Apart from the odd rarer crown I haven’t seen too many fakes.  Certainly not the later Vics or the like you might pick up at a car boot sale.

I can’t recall seeing fake rocking horses or veiled head Vics.  I’ve certainly seen some faked common crowns like the 1937 Australian crown and plenty of early Victoria crowns,

carrying scales would also weed out most fakes as they are usually underweight.  You’ll find the colour is often not quite right and the details might look soft.

If you research the coins you’re looking for you’ll often find modern fakes are often made from the same master and they all have marks or faults in the same place.
