Has anyone ever had their own coins made?

Has anyone ever thought of making their own design for a silver coin or even had one made?

I did ponder about getting some made a while back but couldn't think of a design that would stand out, plus it would have been expensive to do it on my own, so i sat back down and opened up another can of beer at the time.

The best ideas always come around after a few beers!

A few people discussed this over on SS, and the price was large.

Buying silver, having the press thingies made with your design, minting fees, shipping etc.

Worked out at a very nasty per-coin price, and that was for a fairly ropey mint.

Perth Mint minimum order was hilarious.

When they look crap, they're no longer cool. Wasted opportunity.

I'm not sure what the visual equivalent of being tone deaf is, but some people seem to be visually tone deaf.

He must be happy with it for it to all be going ahead.

if it`s of any help for ideas, I often stamp out my own blanks and put patterns on them for jewellery and it`s not That hard to do.

the only issue would be that the rounds are only small and not too thick, so maybe 1/10`th Oz each, and it`s fairly time consuming as I have to roll out the silver to the desired thickness, put the plate in the stamping block, then load it into the hydraulic press etc...

so it`s all done manually.

if you want some pics of the equipment to give you an idea I`d be happy to post some.

now while this probably isn`t ideal, it`s certainly the bare bones basics of making your own coins and isn`t all that expensive!

you can even buy a .999 hallmark stamp as well.
