1937 Sovereign

Just spotted the very rare 1937 sov on a private auction site.

 

It sold for around £1180.

 

I wondered what you Gold and sov fans thought of the price?

For the coronation in 1937, only 5,500 Gold Proof 4 coin sovereign sets were minted, (half, full, double, quintuple)

 

So, it's quite rare and I'm sure it's a must have for any serious sovereign collector.

No idea about the price, could look on ebay sold listings

 

But I have to say I quite like his portrait, he looks like JFK, or I should say JFK looks like him.

Can't say that i noticed the liking between the two but they both had a similar haircut for a profile view.

The 1937 sov is a nice coin.  You see them now and then on various auction sites.  It's hard to say what the value of the coin is without knowing it's condition.  Still, sometimes you can get decent prices on various auction sites, so it's always worth making watch-lists and keeping an eye out. 

 

On other news, a 1937 sov sold for 516,000 GBP earlier this year actually, albeit that was for the super rare Edward VIII 1937 sovereign, not the George VI 1937 sovereign.
