that wont work, you need oxy-ace type heat to flash it, it has to get hot enough to lightly melt the surface and not the whole coin, and with silver being the best heat conductor you`ll need something with massive heat potential.

silver melts at 961c, that would be some goerge forman if it could do that! LOL :P

the gently abrasive effect should bring it back up nicely, the plastic scour pads will do the same just a bit faster.

the outside of coin will be very soft at the moment, so probably not a good idea to keep it with other coins.

good thing it wasn`t gold though, silver will at least form an insoluble layer and protect itself somewhat, gold is quite soluble in chlorine.

edit: posted at the same time, I`m pleased it`s started looking better! :D

I would have thought a 5 second dip in e-Zest would restore the coin to like new.

Flutteryshy made a solution of Thiourea and acid, the main active ingredients in e-Zest ( which you cannot buy in the UK. )

She had some success I believe with her mixture.

well... although I couldn`t replicate the Black color I did manage to get a dark gray and even with exposeure to the UV laser at work I couldn`t get it black, maybe it was the bleach? i used domestos gell type lemon fragrace bleach.

Aaaaanyway, regardless of the above, my cleaner doesn`t seem to work on it at all, it`s probably only good for normal tarnish and not outright abuse :P

having said that... I have some Hydroquinone and Metol in the lab, and that stuff`s made for reducing silver halides to metal again (photography) so maybe that`ll work?
