Currency Act 1965

Currency (Perth Mint) Determination 2014 (No. 3)

Under subsection 13A(1) of the Currency Act 1965, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer has made a determination regarding the specifications of coins proposed to be issued by the Perth Mint (Gold Corporation).

Subsection 13A(1) of the Currency Act 1965 requires that the determination provide details of coin characteristics including standard composition, standard weight, allowable variation from standard weight, design and dimensions.

A determination made by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer is a disallowable instrument for the purposes of section 42 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.

The design on the 2014 Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle (5oz) gold proof coin, consists of a representation of a wedge-tailed eagle landing on a tree stump superimposed on a circle. The coin includes the following inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE’, ‘2014 5oz 9999 GOLD’, and the initials of the designer John Mercante ‘JM’.

I can accept the same design for a bullion coin each year. But to produce the same design silver proof and high relief proof coin each year, that's just milking it.

Will probably affect the resale value of these in the secondary market.

They really are milking the WTE. So many variants. I wonder if they'll limit the bullion coin and make it exclusive again.
