Blockhead got a reaction from Zhorro in Today I want to show.....
I'm more a stacker than collector but I am proud of this.
Its precious metal content is relatively low at just over 15g of Sterling silver, but its historical context is interesting and makes it my only truly numismatic coin.

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Full Stack / Full Collection Photos
As always, apologies for the poor photos. Also apologies for not getting everything out (ooh err) as I was pushed for time.

The easily accessible stack.
Quite like how you can't make everything out as it's packed in so tightly, like a little treasure chest

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Panda Photo thread...
Apologies for the photo quality but here is my collection so far (started two months ago).

Not very valuable, or exciting to most, but something I like launched in a year that is very important to me.

Here's my collection so far, with a 2019 on its way soon. (Apologies for poor photo quality.)
I got the 1995s from @DavePanda and he may have some others available. There's also @Agpanda whom I've also bought from in Sweden.
For completeness I also bought a fake 2009 coin (not in the photos) - was on ebay for £10 delivered and I sent an offer and got it for a fiver delivered. From a distance it looks OK but it's twice as thick as the real silver pandas to make up the correct weight! It's also useful as a reminder of what to look for.

Looks like you got a few dozen when you were only... after eight

Likewise from Roy, Purefine 50g silver bar and two 2015 silver Pandas

Fancied one of these for a while... so bought two. Sequential serial numbers, which is nice.
I don't know if they'll carry much premium over the years (probably a little) but they really look the part IMHO.
First time using silver trader website and very happy with the service.
Appreciate anyone's thoughts on them.

I really want one of these! I get paid, decide carefully what I want to buy then over the next few weeks see several other things I want. Not things I quite like, but things I really want!

A 1995 and a 2013 Chinese silver Panda.

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Today I Received.....
Exactly the same a few months ago for me, although I got it from Bullion by Post through their eBay (which can sometimes be cheaper if you hunt through all their listings) and paid £88.00 delivered (still a very good price I think).
Well done getting it that low!

From eldorado coins this morning. My first non-UK purchase of silver. Very happy with them and a very good price.

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Today I Received.....
Picked up an ms69 Chinese Panda. Except it has a big red spot on it (and a few smaller ones not easily visible). Very disappointed as was hoping to collect these for my own enjoyment rather than as a strictly investment reason. Might have a rethink on the whole idea now. I see @mickd has similar problems...

My heaviest single item of gold to date. What a beauty!

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Today I Received.....
Being born in the eighties I have learnt some of these but there were many I didn't know. You say Bob but that is slang for shilling just to confuse things. Why was there an amount called 'dollar' when it's pounds sterling? Why a 'tanner' which sounds far too similar to the much much greater amount of a 'tenner'?
Don't forget 21 shillings was a Guinea...
My dad said some of the more posh and expensive shops used to just display the price without saying if it was in pounds or guineas. Apparently if you had to ask you couldn't afford it. Don't know if there's any truth in that?

I have a similar but not identical set and paid £15 for it last year. Nice bit of history.

Blockhead got a reaction from Gruff in Today I Received.....
Quite scuffed (doesn't look so bad in natural light to the naked eye) but was very close to spot and had the advantage of picking it up locally.

As someone with only a small amount of gold I was very pleased to receive this from @Gypsytoday, effectively doubling my total gold holding by weight. Beautiful coin and a pleasure to deal with.

Blockhead reacted to Spyder in Ebay Authenticity Guarantee
I think this is good news from ebay. Just received an email that from the 11 October any jewellery sold for more than £500, you can post directly to ebay who will authenticate and post on to buyer. Any returns goes the same way. This will stop scammers posting back a Christmas card or a swapped item.
I wished they would include gold coins.
A step in the right direction and no extra charge to the seller

Blockhead reacted to arphethean in 1996 pandas
This series of photos shows the development of the temple design.
Up to 1991 there was no inner ring, like this
From 1992 to 1996 the temple and the writing shrunk to fit the inner ring.
This shows small date at the top (minted in Shanghai, slightly smaller mintage)
and large date (Shenyang) below
From 1997 to 1999 there are two distinct typefaces. The wider non-serif large date (Shenyang) above.
And the slightly more common narrow small date (Shanghai) below.
2000 was a one off design with two finishes in the ring. The very scarce mirror, above, and still scarce frosted ring below.
2001 to 2004 has a smaller date within the now familiar borderless frosted ring, and in 2005 the font grew a bit, which is how the design has remained to the present.
