Having made a successful claim with Royal Mail once before they will reimburse you for what it would cost to get a replacement item. So, if you bought a gold Britannia 10 years ago for £700 they would compensate you for a replacement and not the £700.

If a seller won't offer the guarantee when sending something via special delivery I suspect, on this forum at least, they will end up bumping their unsold sales listings every day for 30 days and then just relist.

It has zero baring on whether something is insured. I have been asked by post office workers many times and each time I say, "nothing prohibited" and if they ask again to clarify I say I'm not telling you anything else. Captain subtext says "mind your business and jog on" Works every time for me

Pretty simple by my reckoning, if the seller won't take responsibility when something is fully insured then I won't buy from them. Their loss if not!

I really don't understand the direction the mint is taking with these kind of releases and coins. It's obviously just pure profiteering and unfortunately it targets people that don't know better.

Royal Mail only paid £10 for the postage. It was only by the intervention of a third party "Sally Sorts It" that the Royal Mail sent out a £2500 cheque. Insurance is often not worth the paper it's printed on and they will always find a way to weasel out of paying.
