  1. As I said, in hand the grainy effect is not there but there is something different about this strike I think - looks like an old style proof. I’ll have to see what other people get
  2. Ok the negatives, the capsule wasn’t closed properly and there is dust on the coin. It’s also a nightmare to photograph but here are a couple from my phone. No idea why Charles head looks do grainy - in real life it looks ok
  3. My order was due for delivery today by 1pm but is currently in a mailing centre and not moving anywhere fast. So hoping it moves and isn’t joining a backlog of parcels
  4. I was surprised as I checked this morning and it was still in progress, read my email an hour ago and stated it was being prepared for dispatch. Received the Royal Mail tracking number about half an hour ago.
  5. Just had an email that my sov has been dispatched
  6. I mean the petition crown is extremely rare and historically important so I don’t want people thinking Im diss it. Also, engraved by one of the finest coin engravers to live and secondly, for its time it was setting a whole new level of realistic portraits. I mean RM could quite rightly say it fits every requirement of a great engraver series coin. I think the issue is not every collector will want a remastered coin of historic importance which doesn’t have a legendary and mythological reverse, Una and the Three Graces coins capture the imagination but does the petition crown, probably not. It’s got a interesting back story but it’s not the same in my opinion unless you like engraver drama
  7. I like the petition crown but if it’s the next great engravers I’d be surprised and underwhelmed to be honest
  8. Short term I suspect it’ll be worth it’s RRP and longer term dependent on the final mintage number, it may have a small premium but I’m not expecting a sudden price hike at any point but who knows. When the UK finally has an economic upturn and people can have both food and a memorial sovereign, then at this point we will realistically see what the interest for this coin is. It’s just a terrible time to release a new coin, run up to Christmas and during a massive cost of living crisis. It’s a terrible time to be in the premium modern proof business - the mint is feeling the snap and let’s be honest many of us are holding modern proofs which have lost their premium in the short term (but not all which is important).
  9. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people that does hourly checks on the NGC tracker. I like the usual bad news early
  10. After my recent grading woes and frustrations, my mind is now blown - this is the crown I shared on this thread in October and now graded. I was hoping for a 62 🤷‍♂️😂
  11. It’s going to be disappointing when RM announce its the 2021 The Who coin
  12. This coin is now the subject of a number videos by Guy de la Bédoyère questioning its authenticity. As a collector of Roman coins, I agree with Guy’s conclusion that there is so much wrong with this coin that it’s almost implausible that it represents a ‘lost emperor’ - living in the UK in which we have Roman Usurpers minting coins, I have never see such a ridiculous legend especially on a gold issue. I have bronzes from the UK and other issues from short lived emperors from all over the Roman Empire and not a single coin is blundered like this coin. The new evidence is just too questionable to be accepted by the wider community. The Romans could get coins wrong but this coin is too un-Roman to be Roman but is a copy of a Roman republic issue and LRB but done really badly.
  13. Maklouf obverses are starting to find interest now but the 89 is a beautiful coin
  14. Can’t wait for the ‘Anne Jessop is a fraud’ proof 50p which is being released on Monday and delivered in 2023.
  15. I know the feeling but I’m mainly collecting ancients and historical again. Modern proofs, it’s a game I’ll play when there is something I like but not stressing myself out with RM where possible. At times, they squeeze the enjoyment of collecting out of you. You shouldn’t pay premium and then be relieved when a coin eventually arrives without QC issues. I just need to end my grading addiction now and I can just enjoy being a collector again and not worry about an arbitrary number given to a coin because somebody cleaned it 200 years ago or the silver toned so it’s now not desirable. The hobby is off the rails at the moment and I for one have/had stopped appreciating the art of coins because I was to eat up about everything else
  16. ‘External factors’ - my no boxes or packaging rumour still has legs
  17. Looking at the mintage figures, more likely they’ve ran out of numbers
  18. Just to freshen up the thread, I reckon they are having issues sourcing the boxes and packaging again. Pretty sure I read, they have had these issues before. I can’t see any other logical reason why they are so backlogged with coin delivery. Just to confirm, I have no evidence or inside knowledge. I have no friends at the mint and ignored my RM account manager that much they stopped calling but for them 3 months, I felt like I had made it in the world of coins.
  19. RM may just be running a book on how many replies will appear on this thread if they remove all the remaining stock over night. The winner gets a circulated 50p in at least VF+ and next week they’ll just add all the stock back just for the giggles.
  20. The reality is I understand peoples frustrations with the price, the mintage figures, the wait and the potential of QC issues. Also reading how long some have been waiting for other coins etc, it’s clear the mint needs to get a grip of this because it’s getting a reputation for not delivering and to be honest, I’ve been on the end of some absolute stinking QC from RM but in their defence they’ve always tried to rectify the issues. I would like to know why they are selling coins and taking money but having nothing to send out, It’s naturally going to frustrate people especially in the run up to Christmas. The positive is this is a historic coin and something different so I’ll put up with all of the above as I think it’s a coin worth owning.
  21. Sounds like the George Michael coin they’ll be releasing soon
