  1. Thank you all for your input, I do very much appreciate it!
  2. Hi Folks, I picked this up today and was wondering if anyone could help clarify the sovereign mark on this Ingot. from what I have found so far about the marks: maker: GMC (dont know much more) assay office: Birmingham country: England/UK Date letter (C) - 1977 however, the sovereign effigy (I assume its Elizabeth) is not one I could fine on reference. Would anyone know if its a standard mark or commemorative mark? thanks for your help!

    Austrian 4 Ducats:

In the European market (EU) they tend to sell for 5-8% over spot (dealer prices). Austrian mint has them for 107% spot price on their website
  4. Hi all, apologies as this is not a precious metal, rather just a one penny and not rare at that. This was part of a lot. What is more or less amusing is that I am not sure if this is just circulation wear or perhaps a slightly false planchet. I have little to no knowledge about errors and non-precious coinage in general, so your opinions are much appreciated. What do you all think, potentially an error, or would this just be considered wear? I’m leaning towards this penny having been squashed in an unfortunate place rather than an error. thank you for your input

  7. Tdc stands for Tristan da Cunha. a fair assumption, but for modern coins its not uncommon that they aren’t minted in the country of the currency they represent. The companies minting these coins usually get backing from relatively obscure countries to denominate their coins, which makes them coins, not rounds, and that has advantages for the seller as well as the buyer. If you really care about the origin of a coin, you’re probably better off looking for world coins (older currency that was used in circulation) for those countries.
  8. I have never used goldcore based on the fact that their pricing is really too high. If you take a monster box of brits, it averages out at 29,10€ per ounce. About 32-33€ per ounce for a tube. Definitely a few € per ounce cheaper from the likes of Europabullion or European mint. (Specifically for silver that is)
  9. I can confirm this is correct. I have ordered small amounts of silver on 3 separate occassions since brexit from the UK, and customs will hold on to it until you pay VAT+customs charge
  10. If I recall correctly these are released around May or June each year rather than at the start of the year. It may be because of Pandemic at the time (i didnt start this run until 2020), but I got the 2022 one’s delivered in July last year.
  11. Thank you for that! do you mean it was sold at spot +20%?
  12. So a bit of research; Ipelegang means self reliance, and I imagine it’s a slogan came to be after independence of Botswana
  13. Happy new Year forum! i have picked up these two coins on holiday, which for me are quite interesting so I wanted to share them with you and also ask your opinions on perceived value. 2 Pula Botswana 1986 proof 100 Shillingi Tanzania 1986 proof These are part of a series made by the British Royal Mint as a celebration of conservation efforts of the WWF in 1986. Both are in good condition and have their CoA. - how do you like them? - what value would you place on them (individually or as a pair) for transparency, I paid 35€ for the pair which I think is a good deal. hope you enjoy them and thanks for all of your inputs!
  14. Alright so here's the update: Made it back to the shop and had the fortune of finding another person in there who spoke both English and Romanian. With this persons' help, explained to the shopkeeper that after further research (thanks forum) I suspected the coin to be a forgery. Shopkeeper was nice about it and offered to either give me the money back, or let me exchange it for something else in store. I ended up doing a combination of both (no further coins though). I think it's also important to mention that this Antiquariat is not a specialized coinshop, rather it's an antique shop that has some coins, which is a great reminder for me to be more sceptical about purchases like these. The shop window just says ''Antiquariat Boutique'', so I'm going with that's the name. To be more detailed, it is situated on Strada Diaconi Coresi, which is about a 5 mins walk from the Black Cathedral in Brasov's old centre. I think this is a joke that went over my head, but I'll just state that it seemed like normal proportions for someone that size. Thanks again to all of you for your thoughts and opinion, which has saved me from spending some good ol' fiat on a fake coin. I am confident the shopkeeper had no bad intentions considering his reaction and response. I am happy with the way things turned out and hopefully I actually gained some knowledge for future purchases in these type of situations 😎. Again, much appreciated!
  15. I did not have the opportunity to do so at this stage, this was a purchase on the spot in the shop The coin was bought at an antiquariat boutique in Romania, Brasov to be more precise. My romanian is very basic as was the shopkeepers English. Part of the adventure and taking a chance I guess. world silver coins are somewhat to me and admittedly I have 0 knowledge about Russian coinage, nor did I have the opportunity at the time to do proper research. I decided to chance it since, worst case scenario it’s be a 40€ lesson in being more pragmatic about my purchases I appreciate all of your inputs. I will return to that shop today or tomorrow and try to explain to the shopkeeper in my best Romanian that I believe it to be a fake. I’ll update here once that visit is completed!
  16. Thanks a lot! I’ll do a closer inspection tonight but based on your comments, I think you may be right. Being generous, the statue on the column may be some fading/wearing but I do fully agree with the look of the fence and the lack of the signature on the neck on the obverse. I will have a chance to go back to the same place tomorrow, so I may just check with the shopkeeper. I appreciate your insights!
  17. Hello Forum, whilst on Holidays I came across a coin I frankly know nothing about, and decide to take a chance on it since I tend to educate myself through a hit-and-miss model. Last time I asked for your opinions, it turned out it was a miss(from me!), so today I am trying it again what we have here is a 1834 1 Ruble Alexander Column in a decent condition. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces16531.html Though I haven’t been able to do full checks on its legitimacy (my tools are at home) I do think it is genuine. The place where I got this had multiple other coins that I am familiar with and that (looked) perfectly genuine so I’ll take the benefit of the doubt here. if we assume that it’s indeed genuine, what would you think this should be valued at? From my quick checks, it’s quite rare (mintage of 15K and numista rarity index of 90), but some of the price indications put this in price ranges between 100-300€, which probably is too high. i tried to take pictures in different lights but am limited with my cellphone for quality. i appreciate all of your inputs. For transparancy, I ended up paying 40€ For this coin. thank you all for taking the time
  18. Thank you very much for your input! In terms of design, it's each to their own. I've seen nicer designs and worse designs, but indeed, that just depends on the person. I appreciate your insights on the grading too. I guess that could happen sometimes in terms of rarity, is that a thing? I'd imagine that most people would like higher grades either way but people are people so who knows . This part of collecting is new to me so I try to keep learning. Again thanks for everyone's input, perhaps one day I'll actually know what I'm on about!
  19. Thanks Leon! I purchased this for my own collection but I was just curious of it’s value and the opinion of others as the world of (collectable) world silver is quite new to me. I paid 34€ for this so I think it’s not too bad. I’ve seen similar ones for sale at my local coinshop in dublin (higher grades though) but they are way more expensive, cheapest one sits at 100€. Thank you! Yes it is less than I imagined but that is ok. When I do sell I prefer to do it here, i feel better when we can help each other out rather than getting more €€ from a buyer who doesn’t know that ebay is (generally) a rip off. thanks for all of your opinions, I appreciate it
  20. Thanks a lot for including a link of that auction! I still have a lot to learn I see. Surprised it didn’t sell at 40€ to be honest, though that may have just been little interest in that period. Perhaps 35-50€ is more realistic.
  21. Hello Forum! looking for some opinions on the (estimated) value of this coin. It’s a 1868 2 1/2 guilder (though the flip says 1 guilder) from the Netherlands with Willem III’s portrait. I think the condition is quite good. i’ve found a few of these in sold status on etsy and ebay which evidently aren’t the best price indicators. In worse and similar conditions these seem to have sold between 75 and 120 euro (there are some online more expensive but these arent sold at this stage). not the rarest, but these 2 1/2 guilders do command a decent premium in general (its 25g of .945 silver). I’m thinking in this condition it’d be around 80-100 € (70-86£ Gbp), but curious to see what the opinions are over here. thanks in advance!
  22. Hi Frank, there is/was a series of 8x 10oz qb for sale on the EU sales thread, priced at 1500€ (1260£). I believe it hasn't sold yet but someone did pm the seller. these weren’t boxed. so a full set that is boxed, perhaps more towards the 1950-2000€ range (1600-1680£) would be reasonable? I feel that may be slightly on the lower end though. hope everything is ok since you stated you need to sell. In any case, GLWS!
