As an extra, need to get calipers but the 2017 seems wider than the others ...

It's the extra lip making it look thicker, it's fine though. Most modern sovs can have an almost sharp edge.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Thanks, so the lip is fine then, I.e. wouldnt concern you ?

When you say modern, what years would they be as another coin think it's the 1976/1981 is also sharp ...

any recommended reading anyone? Clearly a sov noob :)

The Gold Sovereign by Michael Marsh is a fabulous starting point. Was recommended to me and probably the book I see mentioned most on this forum 👍🏼

Yeah when I say modern I mean 70s onwards, I actually expect it now when I rub my thumb across a sovereigns edge. Must be the stamping process causing it.

Measured all my 1oz silver and was getting between 1.003 - 1.008 toz so think all results showing as expected. I will at some point take to dealer to get verified but visually, dimension, weight & magnet tests all come out good

I have that scale,  and notice that it gives different readings nearly every time you weigh the same coin, and always overweight

Brilliant! I figured that as long as its weighing the royal mint coins at the same or very similair weight to the others in my collection its a good start! All coins are the same diameter & look similair thinkness although I will get a digital measure for this. So far so good!
