Cardinal Newman chunk!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I found this recently. Has anyone seen anything similar and have any idea if it has any value? I can see that it is some kind of memento of Cardinal Newman, but have no idea if it is a precious metal or not. The only marking on the edge is '1000'. It weighs 250g.

The 1000 likely refers to how many pieces were cast.

If silver, a 250g bar would command around £185 currently, add a few pounds because its poured silver, find someone who likes the subject matter and it will go north of £200.

See how it reacts with a magnet, silver isn't magnetic, but is diamagnetic..so should have a slight attraction. If that's pays off, try @Fenlander1's suggestion of the specific gravity test. BackyardBullion has a clear video on YouTube.
