Hi everyone,

I’ve got this gold ring that has some markings that I don’t know how to identify. Anybody be able to help me?

Hi, Jenna.

I don't think it is possible to read these hallmarks, because are not as should be.

There are three possible  explanations (my guess is for the second variant):

1. It is foreign 18ct gold, made before the Vienna Convention on the Control of the Fineness and the Hallmarking of Precious Metal Objects 1972. Judging from picture, it is way older. The hallmarks applied initially by an assay office of origin country are deformed after heating and resizing the ring.

2. It is 18ct gold custom made by a jeweller in his workshop and the mark was applied "in house". There are many examples of home made jewellery hallmark exempt in some countries before more strict regulations were applied.

3. It is not gold and the hallmarks are fake.

For your peace of mind, I would suggest you to check the purity of your gold ring at a local jeweller or pawn shop.

All the best!

Stefan.
