NGC Grading Criteria

MROTOR

Recommended Posts

Hello,

long time lurker here and always very grateful for the wealth of knowledge the members so generously share.

I recently picked up a PF70 slapped 2022 proof gold Sovereign to mark an occasion. The reason I went with slabbed is to ensure I get an as good of a coin as possible since I’ve read and seen the horror stories coming out of the RM.

However, the cook I received has, to my surprise, plenty black streaks on the coin itself that are unpleasant and detract significantly from the coins appeal.

i can’t seem to understand how this coin achieved a PF70 grade with its obvious post production flaws unless they were caused by NGC who proceeded to slab and return the coin hoping no one would notice?!

i attached a couple of pics for your opinions.

Thank you!

Is there anyway someone could have swapped your coin for another?

Nope-it was bought from a very reputable dealer in the UK and they offered to exchange it for me. I’m just shocked at NGC giving it a 70!
