Poured bars, or, on charm

Yet another Saturday morning ramble... So, I like poured bars (more affordable in silver). Thing is, I asked myself, if producers shouldn't take more care to keep with the chunky old school design.

I am comparing the old Degussa bars

which are oozing character, in that you practically feel the analog embossing of the serial number,

to the new ones

with a kind of digital print.

Old Degussa's successor, Umicore, does it better

I conclusion I feel that poured bars should retain the older hands on character. A more digitized approach is fine for punched bars

but it destroys the immersion on poured bars. In no way would I approach a mixed analogue/digital design as with the new Degussa poured bars (actually made by Argor Heraeus, mine are from a time when they were made by Valcambi).

But perhaps the aesthetics of the products are lost to them? Maybe they just want to produce a kilo of silver?

Do you think anyone would pay extra for bars with a "distressed finish"?
