Information about the Import & Export of Gold in the 1980s

Hello All,

I'm just writing to enquire as to whether anybody here might be able to help me with a novel I'm currently writing.

The novel is about a fictional woman who is a famous Gold Importer in the 1980s and it would be great if anybody here could advise me  (whether that be anecdotally or historically) with regards to understanding the logistics, protocols, compulsory paperwork that would have been needed to import Gold in the 80s, where that gold might have been imported from and any details of the kind of characters that were involved at the time.
