Sending silver from HK to UK

Hi all!

New to silver, and also new to the UK. With those two things in mind, I have a friend sending me a parcel with some small gifts from Hong Kong. My question is, can I order some silver rounds or 1oz bars from LPM to them, and have them add it to the package? If so, will I have to pay VAT on them on arrival?

Thanks for the help and advice

By the letter of the law, the sender should itemise everything in the parcel and assign it a value. Then customs can assign VAT or import duty when they get that document.

If the sender does not fill it out or doesn't fill it out correctly and customs suspects things are not all as they seem (having X-rayed and examined the parcel) they are well within their right to open it and assign VAT based on their assessment of value. The receiver is ultimately the one that is responsible for the correct information being declared.

Remember, if you are actively instructing your friend not to fill out the form correctly because you don't want to pay VAT that is a crime so if your goal here is to get VAT free silver, it is not really a viable option.
