A new US (West Coast) collector checking in!

Hi everyone! Long-time lurker here after hearing about the forum from @numistacker's YouTube videos.

I've especially enjoyed browsing the "photo only" threads (I go there to drool over the proofs) and I'm looking forward to contributing some shots of my growing Queen's Beasts collection as they come in.

I'm a US-based stacker and I've been picking up mostly silver coins on ~a $400/mo USD budget for a few months now.

Here's my collecting strategy so far (I'd love to hear your thoughts):

1. Annual world bullion

Each year I am buying three each of the American Silver Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, and Great Britain Britannia silver 1oz bullion coins.

My plan is to keep a set for myself, one set for my brother, and one to gift in the future.

2. Series

I plan to keep an eye out for new series from world mints. When I like the theme behind a series, I'll pick up the first coin in the set while the premium is relatively low.

I'm starting out by building two sets of the Queen's Beasts 2oz silver bullion (one for me and also building a set to give to my brother).

I really love the weight of the 2oz QB coins and I've always had a pretty romantic view of the UK coinage. I've just caught up with the series up to the dragon and I'm looking forward to picking up the rest of the coins as they come out (and avoiding the premium I paid for the Lion and Griffen).

3. "Double-down" on coins I love

When I find coins that I love, I'll aim to pick up variations of the coin in different sizes and other precious metals.

After seeing how much I loved the design of the QB lion in 2oz form, I picked up a 1/4 oz Gold and 10oz silver lion.

Other random thoughts:

  • Despite their added expense per coin, I love airtites and part of my enjoyment in collecting so far has been the ritual of putting new arrivals into direct fit capsules.
  • I've picked up one coin slabbed by PCGS (a 2016 1/10oz gold Mercury "dime") and one by NGC (a 2018 1oz silver panda) -- I much prefer the NGC slab, but I don't see myself picking up much more bullion graded coins.
  • As far as aspirational sets go, I really like the look of the proof silver and gold Britannias. Though Numistacker might be increasing their popularity a bit too much for me to be able to afford them ;)
