sovereignsteve got a reaction from Thelonerangershorse in Today I Received.....
Well yesterday............the postie paid me a visit.
a proof 2005 and some bullion.
a 1884 shield half sovereign. was surprised I didn't have one already.
A lovely 1818 crown in EF condition. obverse maybe shows some signs of a little past cleaning, but hey don't send it for grading

sorry, no.
the 59 tends to have quite a broad lower edge to the headband. In certain light on certain photos, it can look as though it's two lines but if you look closely, you can see they are the two edges of a raised part. This aspect does tend to vary quite a lot in YH sovs.
trust me, I've looked extremely closely at loads of 59's

Possible but also likely it was the punch that was used to impression the "E" into the die that had the broken edge.

Almost all YH G&D sovs that have a BP are of the small variety, very few varieties have a large BP. There are quite a few without.

The first wear on the horse appears around the eyes and ears, the right shoulder and the bridle/neck area.

I've picked up a fair few loose proofs on ebay that were sold as just sovereigns.
This one does look like a proof but not totally convincing, maybe it's an early RM BU strike similar to the recent offerings?
I have had a few bully 2002 sovs in cards like this one and they have all been full on business strikes; no question. This one could be a mistake at the mint or is there a chance it has been replaced in the card? I would expect NGC to grade it as a PR

Yes they are a bit unpredictable with these things but I would have thought the gouge was worse damage than the rim.

It's a fabulous coin; would have gone higher if not for the neck gouge

a very underrated coin in my opinion, better than buying bullion at the same price

Not my cup of tea but @BackyardBullion is certainly turning out some awesome stuff

That's very kind of them but few people would want one of them for each bullion coin they have. Makes storage a nightmare.

maybe, depends on the condition of the reverse. the obverse looks nice enough.
