  1. Buying Silver in the UK is pointless due to VAT unless you buy scrap close to spot and then at some point sell it to buy CGT exempt Gold Coins when the Gold/Silver ratio drops significantly. However this could take some time to happen.
  2. I used to buy most of my Sovereigns at auction in the mid 2000's and you could buy them for £10- £15 cheaper than a bullion dealer, there was also not much difference in the price of Proof Sovereigns compared to bullion ones. I don't bother now as they are invariably bid up to stupid prices by some silly old fool who doesn't realise he can buy the same coins far cheaper on the Internet.
  3. Will start to swap my Silver to Gold when the Gold/Silver ratio hits 60,45,30 and 15.
  4. I only use it for buying Scrap Silver, I just find it unusual that you can buy 1 Kg bars cheaper than a dealer as ebay is usually more expensive. Maybe more people have wised up and buy on here.
  5. I have noticed that 1 Kg Silver bars have been trading at a decent discount compared with buying from a Bullion dealer. I must admit I find this highly unusual considering the nice uptick in the Silver price, usually Silver is more expensive on ebay than buying from a dealer. Not sure what to make of this.
  6. From starting work in 1989 I have on average earned the equivalent of just over 1 Gold Sovereign a week after tax. So in 33 years of work I would say its a decent store of value.
  7. I don't care what the price of Silver is as I am more concerned with the Gold/Silver ratio. I will look at swapping a tiny bit at 70 then we shall see from there.
  8. I have quite a few Silver Proof Commonwealth Crown size coins that I have bought off eBay using Topcashback and Nectar points and also I have got a lot of John Pinches Silver Medallions and Spoons etc. Recently I have been buying Pre 1947 50% Silver coins. I actually sold all of my Gold when the ratio went over 90.
  9. It is well worth the headache if the ratio heads back to 50/1 or lower.
  10. The only way you can play the Gold/Silver ratio in the UK is by buying Sterling Silver scrap but it is very time consuming trying to source it.
  11. I will be very curious to see how much these "wrong year" Queen's Beasts go for on eBay. Here's someone chancing their arm with a Gold 1/4oz one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144710824088?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=FWBl6EIYRX2&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=HGYvEdibRDO&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  12. Just wondering if this has happened before? I mean there are no 1902 Victoria Coins,Edward VII 1911, George V 1937,George VI 1953 etc, please correct me if I am wrong.
  13. With regard to the 2023 Yale of Beaufort Coin, has there ever been an instance where a coin was minted when the Sovereign was dead? It seems odd that there are coins minted for 2023 featuring the Queen when she died in 2022.
  14. Unbeatable deals from Gerrards. https://www.gerrardsbullion.com/ 2022 Little John Myths & Legends 1oz Gold Coin from £10.30
