  1. I love double proof sovereigns, but then I collect £2 coins. 😄 I had the luck of picking up a 2002 golden jubilee double proof (PF69 before I removed it from the slab and took it back to the box) for only £850. I'll definitely be looking out for the '89 but would be unlikely pay over £1k for a (nearly) 1/2oz coin.
  2. Absolutely, a real deal. Max also told me that he will be getting some rather rare 1oz silver 'frosted' proof editions of this coin. I don't really know anything about silver but would be interested to see what these coins look like and will be priced at.
  3. That's really interesting. Instant sell out of 7,500 coins, that's phenomenal. The best price on fleabay is £160 posted from Oz, but I hope a better deal will come to light in time.
  4. This is not the coin I expected but you can't fight destiny. I'm pleasantly surprised and the proud new owner of 95/210 minted of The King of Coins. So happy with this The chap I bought it from hadn't even heard about this particular 'frosted' reverse proof variant and acquired 2. He was suddenly inundated with loads of enquiries after listing it on Bookface. I invited him to join us on TSF, he is a rather renowned and prolific gold coin dealer in the south west.
  5. Portraits of her majesty by Ian Rank-Broadley, Raphael Maklouf, Jody Clark and John Bergdahl I think I need two or three more to complete the set of Royal Mint engravers. I'd quite like to see the Queen's portrait by other engravers from other countries and mints too. There's an australian coin I'm itching to get which has all 6 RM effegies of her Majesty on the reverse, but sadly they didn't do it in gold - missed a trick there Oz. I'd like to add Mary Gilick, Arnold Machin and Butler proof double sovereigns to the collection. It's been a right royal haul for January. 😁
  6. I am in the market for a commemorative 2023 Australian 50 cents coin. I would really like to get ahold of this coin... 2023 Queen Elizabeth II Memorial 50 cents silver proof coin They have a limited mintage of 7,500 and were retailing from the Royal Australian Mint at $135 AUD since last November. I would be very interested to hear from someone selling this coin, if so drop me a line. But also if anyone sees one of these going anywhere please let me know. Thanks!
  7. I did stress a bit at first because of a micro-particulate and then did a reality-check. It is a lump of metal after all no harm will come to it. 😄 I do however need one of those puffy-puff lens cleaners we used to use to knock dust off 35mm camera lenses. But no biggie, except for my OCD. Lessons learned. I probably do need to get a lump of bog standard bullion or old sovereigns to fondle.
  8. Yes white gloves is on my wishlist. I may have to use one of our hermetically sealed labs at my school. I've already discovered something of the dangers of exposing a coin to air, but nothing beats seeing a such a coin in the metal.
  9. Yeah I'm really sorry about the photos they really don't do it justice. I will pick a good still day before I expose it to the elements and come back with better photos. I also need to get a mini mobile tripod for my camera. 🤔
  10. I've also finally got my 2023 UK BU definites. And for last but most definitely not least. Saving the best till now and probably my favoure £25 coin I have... 2022 KCII Queen Elizabeth II (double effegy) 1/4 £25 proof coin. I'm pretty sure these will be collectors peices some day. I ummed and arred about getting it in 1oz but I do like my quarters.
  11. Nope. "This is not the coin you're looking for" that one comes next week. But you should've known Orpster cos I told you about it already. 😄 But it's a bit of a curve ball. 2002 QEII Golden Jubilee proof double sovereign. (At PF69 for those who care about such things)
  12. Today I received my coin in a bird box... What a nice little philatelic freebie! Can you guess what the coin will be...?
  13. Only just seen this. Wow, amazing! It's bloody awesome. I want one... ...damn withdrawn, what were you asking? 👋😀
  14. Bingo! Sealed the deal, got a good price.
  15. Put a shed load in a CFD in physical gold just for giggles.
  16. Ooh does that mean we can get it in gold-pressed latinum? 😆
  17. I think these are the 22ct sovereign equivalent... https://www.royalmint.com/sovereign/coronation-sovereign/the-coronation-of-his-majesty-king-charles-iii-five-sovereign-piece-2023-brilliant-uncirculated-coin/ ...Which are probably a lot better value in money for gold content. https://britanniacoincompany.com/buy-coins/gold-coins/2023-charles-coronation-5-gold/ I quite like this one, but not quite as much as it's 24ct counterpart. I really do like the 2023 KCIII Coronation Cypher bullion coins. I just wish that they did them in proof, I think they've missed a trick there because they'd have been stunning.
  18. I've had an offer for £850 on the 1/4. Which I suppose is £100 more than it cost when released.
  19. I haven't been able to find it for less than £3250 inc postage/collection (although I did see one go for £3200). A seller just knocked £50 off for me today even though he said that he wasn't open to offers when I originally asked him. So it was worth £2770 when it was released last year so I would ideally be looking around the 3k mark.
  20. Not sure if they will see it? Non paying member.. Yep, I've already had a heads-up about this one. But as nice as it is 'it's not the coin I'm looking for', I'm looking for a humble 1oz proof. 😉 I don't want a slabbed/graded coin (else I will just break it out regardless) but I do need the box and CoA. If anyone wants to sell a nice raw 2023 KCIII Coronation 1oz gold proof (£100) coin then message me quickly before I buy another - I won't be offering to buy for long. Probably won't be buying any more gold coins for a long time after this either as I've nearly reached my goal and exhausted my wallet (for this quarter at least). 🤪
  21. I checked out all the jewellers in my town when I was first looking at sovereigns. The most expensive jewellers was/is trying to sell some standard sovereigns (no special dates or mintages) as 'pre-loved coins' at £550. I thought I might be on to a winner if they were asking so much they might pay a bit closer to spot. They offered £276 for my sovereign, I gritted my teeth smiled and walked out the shop. The best place in town says he has no problem getting sovereigns in for about +5% over spot. However I have since given up on trying to buy sovereigns as there are just too many variables to take into consideration and I'm focusing on other things now. @SovereignBull I don't know if it's any use but if you're interested in scrap sovereigns then I know that Chards have created a Grade C category for what might be considered less than best value if/when they come in. https://www.chards.co.uk/gold-sovereign-secondary-market-grade-c/3351
  22. I'm looking for a standard Royal Mint mahogany display box with an insert and capsule to fit a double sovereign. If you have one you'd like to throw my way then please PM me, I will of course pay for the postage and leave positive feedback.
